Newly obsessed detailer! Turned a my M3 new again (opti-coat and more)

Okay so I've already learned a bunch! Use smaller pads, thinner pads, do NOT use any of the V products from CG. As you can tell I am not that experienced with detailing.
I reused those pics bc those were the pics taken when we were doing the mega detail. I have since then washed my car 3 times but nothing special besides applying a topper. I do have more pics of the car and I, but if I post it I seem like I'm craving attention and if I don't use it I'm fake. I lose either way.
Anyways, although I know I can learn more on the porter cable, I think I need to buy a new buffer (plus the better pads and polishes).
I just washed my car again today and holy crap the water shot away from the leaf blower like crazy!! It was very cool to watch. I think while its still clean I will put some water on it and blow it off. Its just such a good feeling, I didn't even touch my car to dry it (but I did apply spray wax which helped get rid of water spots).

Oh and I do like the level of maturity already on this forum. Thanks guys for making me feel welcome!

Here's some more pics of the car!
I can have him take close ups of the paint, but its just white and shiny. Is that even worth seeing?

Oh and I accidentally damaged the emblem when I buffed over it. Ya.. I'm an amateur...

I have since then removed the emblem. I felt like I could literally see the difference in paint depth from all the opticoat and wax compared to the nothingness under where the emblem was.

Are you putting something on it after washing?
Ya I'm putting a lot on it. And stuff bonds to the opti coat more than what people say. And topper, including spray wax, will remain after at least one wash. Which is fine with me because I top it off every time.
One wash I will use blacklight and sonax polymer net shield. The next time I just use optimum spray wax. Then repeat the cycle. Not sure if that's the smart way of doing it, but its keeping my car looking very clean very long.

Sorry, I believe the average AG member if above most of this, but similarities are already showing themselves.

???

I guess this is directed to me?

I have no issues with female detailers. I know some do exist here. I thought you were talking about the couple in Texas, I think, that do awesome work. I don't believe they or DK have staged photos like that.

Just saying; If you are proud of your work, show it. Not staged photos of you doing it.

Okay so only pics of just the paint surface? I'm trying to make my posts more interesting by having me in them too.

The porter cable is a fine machine to learn on and can fix paint. Safe and effectively.

However using premium products make the job easier with better results.

Menzerna FG400 will make you look like an experienced detailer it cuts well but finishes like a polish and actually you will see some pretty amazing results with the porter cable and FG400 its expensive but worth the price easy whipe on and whipe off

Your car looks good

You may want to check into Reload or Hydro Max as long lasting (4-6 weeks) toppers. They will leave it very slick. Also check into the many waterless washes. Great for dust removal and as a drying air. I still use 2.0 as I have 3 or 4 applications left. Nothing better on wheels.

Mission accomplished.

Personally, I don't care if this is a rouse or not - there's some good information in these posts. An attractive detailer doesn't necessarily = bogusness.

That said, it would be cool if you'd show us your progress as you learn more - before / afters, that kind of stuff. Plenty of examples here to draw upon. Oh...and nice car. I want one.

That machine is stunning! Looks awesome. I debadged my E92 to clean up the look of it. Not too sure if i would an M although if i damaged a badge accidently i would probably just debadge the whole thing. If you do like to keep them get used to simply taping them up before any machine work. Avoids any damage and prevents gunk from building up.

And yes, isn't it cool to blow water off a well maintained and waxed, sealed or coated paint finish?

If i can suggest what works good for pictures, a directly reflected light source, preferably the sun, and close enough to the paint surface to show any marring...swirls, scratches or even just hazing from an incomplete finish down effort. A lot of times when someone is asking for advice on "what to do with this paint" or "should i use Menz SF4500" they sometimes fail to show the most discerning reflection shot. I'm sure your fiance/husband or maybe even yourself can capture a few good ones. Oh, and we don't need you in the shot although, no disrespect to you or your fiance...i certainly wouldn't mind! And "worth seeing"? We love pictures of ALL paint conditions. Sure, the trashed ones make us cringe a little but the flawless ones make us salivate! Love em all though.

With regard to "toppers" after the wash, a rotation of different products is fine but i have always liked certain ones and then stick to those. Of the one's you've tried do you have a favorite? Does one yield a better shine or another simply last longer between washes?

And dismiss any of those who question why you are here. I can personally say i am glad we have you as a new member and especially with that German rocket sled. Unlike M3Post or Bimmerforums crap, the huge majority of us here are simply legitimate people who have an interest in the exact same thing as you and your fiance (or "husband" as he likes). We are galvanized by this passion of vehicle detailing and like to talk about it...a LOT. And in that talk is a whole bunch of great information that i have personally benefitted from over the years. My approach is to simply ignore any haters or cynical perspectives thrown at me. I don't even respond and rest on my self confidence that doesn't owe an explanation to anyone. I then proceed a polite dialogue with the other mature members who are extremely helpful.

Welcome in, again, to this wonderful online association...we welcome anyone in with the "sickness"! :xyxthumbs:

Congrats on your new ride and you new found enthusiasm for detailing. It's a great hobby and a wonderful way to spend some quality time with your finance. Congrats on your upcoming nuptials as well.

Remember should you change your mind about the coating, you can always buff/polish it off and use a carnauba wax or another LSPs. I'm a wax addict so coatings don't work for me. Not saying one is better than another, but longevity is not an issue since I'm applying a nuba 1-2x per month. I also have a white car and like the following LSPs for lighter colors: Synergy, Auto Finesse Illusion, DDJ Light Fantastic, #845 and Pinnacle Signature Series II. Haven't tried the NY Ammo products but they generally get favorable reviews. But as Mike Phillips likes to say, find something you like and use it often.

For shampoos might give DDj Born To Be Mild a try. Smells great, has great lubricity, cleans well especially on a well maintained car and is highly concentrated so it's cost effective. Keep the photos coming - it's what this forum is all about.

Welcome!

I'm also a BMW owner (E90post). E92 335i ........ obsession is only the half of it! M3 to a 335i w/ upgraded turbos and water meth injection.

I had an E90 M3, but liked the mods I could do with the E92 335i.
It was Jet Black, but eventually I got tired of the brown tint of the color.
I had the car repainted Porsche Deep Black.

2 more pics & back on topic .......

Sorry Manda!

What is it with chemical guys and girls looks like real life pretty girls use them a lot too.
7cc of OC to do a sedan seems quite impressive considering so many applicators were tested.
