customer backed out after test spots were done.

Bob,

In 2001 I bought a 2001 Z71 4x4, red, with 9,000 miles on it. Lady's husband had passed and there wasn't a scratch on it...well, very minor swirls, but you get my point.

Before my wife could drive it off the lot, a guy in a white van backed in to it and killed it from the extended cab to the center of the back axle. He gunned it too!

Imagine this:

Your wife is about to drive away in her new fire engine red truck...that's sitting on 3inches of fresh powder, after the dealer had backed it out of the dealership garage. This guy comes out, get in his van, and without looking backs squarely into the side of it.

How can you not see a blood red truck sitting on 3inches of fresh snow?

He tried to apologize and my reply was. "I know you didn't mean to, but the best thing for you to do right now is get away from me."

Called a friend whose a dealership manager, he said I had 3 days to return it or get my check back. I wouldn't accept the truck, nor would I let them fix it for me and requested my $9,000.00 check back and they reluctantly returned it to me.

Bill...

I'm glad that you guys weren't physically hurt
during that mishap; and glad that you got your
money back for the transaction.

But that type of mishap that transpired
wasn't what I was referring to that could
be categorized as the: "cooling off period".

Bob

I'm not sure what you meant.

That manager stated I had 3 days to back out of any purchase. I took it that meant even if I didn't like it.

I sure am glad you had that option. :props:
Wish I'd have had it on a couple of transactions...

Me, I say turn it back to him just the way it is, don't waste another darn minute of your time. Life is too short, who needs the BS.

If you're any good, don't worry about your rep, and tell this fool with his money "never contact me again".

i'm not sure. his intent was to make a 650hp daily driver out of it, but his budget doesn't meet his desires. they guy who sub-contacted the detail to me gave him 2 quotes, one to make 650hp and one to make a good amount of power for his budget. both had my detail included. he said go ahead and do the work for his budget. i started the detail while we are waiting for parts, then he called and talked about backing out of the whole deal.

650hp from a 997?!

Unless he was starting with a Turbo or higher level car you're pretty much taking about doubling the horsepower of the base cars. The 997.2 made about 340hp (vs the 997.1's 320hp) but even the Turbo only made about 475hp stock. Was it a Turbo S, GT3 or GT2? They each made closer to 540hp stock give or take some but an extra 100hp on those cars comes at serious prices (especially cars like the GT3 RS that didn't have forced induction).

Good luck with the customer. I agree with all of the great advice from others, too.

He thought he could fit a big turbo swap in with his budget.
