Local car show coming up. Thinking about giving away thru an silent action (going to a good cause) a detailing package. Good idea? Do car shows bring in some amount of business, even the people daily driving cars?

I can't speak for auto detailing, but my wife has been self employed for the past 15 years, and the free giveaways as part of fund raisers never lead to any new business. I personally wouldn't do it. The person who got the freebies never had ever used the service in the past and never will after their freebie.

Depends. If so i'd just give away an AIO as opposed to a full correction cause like said above, it could lead absolutley nowhere and be a waste. But at the same time it could lead somewhere and all of a sudden you could have 6 AIO customers lined up. Hard to say

I just did the same thing for a local fundraiser and have already been contacted twice about work. My business logo/name is all over the donors list, and publicity in that manner is a good thing.

If it's a good cause and you have the means, why not just do it for that reason alone? Anything that comes of it is icing on the cake.

If you have a show car, you usually have other vehicles if not a trailer. You might not be detailing their show car but you will be detailing something!

A silent auction is a little different than a giveaway or raffle. If you bid on something it means you are interested in paying for it. And from my experience many of these auction fundraisers attract the higher income population and many of the items actually sell for more than their estimated value.

I have tried it also and can report, like some of the others, no responses including not a single bid on my offer! I joked with my wife that i was going to throw up a BS first bid to get the ball rolling but didn't want to risk winning it! I viewed it in the context of the audience...it was at an annual Gala for my wife's employer and the audience wasn't really plugged in to what i was offering (exterior wash and LSP). I will say that i go to local car shows and as just another "enthusiast" roaming the show do get a chance to talk about my services in a friendly way. I NEVER point out any defects on any of the show cars...EVER...but do talk to some about their processes. I am always amazed at how little they really know about the fine art of detailing.

Might be good advertising and a good experience anyway. I would do it again at a car show...just not at a fancy shmantzy black tie event!
