I am just getting started with my detailing business and I am trying to decide between a hot water extractor and a steamer. What do you recommend? Thanks.

There's a few threads that have been hot lately that have discussed various steamers. Google can tell you the difference between an extractor, and a steamer, but there's also threads on that too. Welcome aboard :) Congratulations on the new business! It's hard work, but it will surely pay off if you keep at it.

I have a vx5000 and a mytee hp60. I recommend finding out what most of your work will be. If you do dirty farm trucks a steamer just won't cut it. But if you're in a city and the carpets don't get nasty then a steamer is a good choice as you can use it for other things. I find myself using the tornador and mytee 99% of the time, but every day I deal with vehicles a steamer just can't handle, nasty grungy door panels and carpets caked in dirt, beer, and coffee lol.

IMO, I would say gauge what your typical carpets will typically look like and your region will play a huge role in that.

Here in GA I get away with a Little Bissell machine for right now. That and a Carpet attachment for your polisher your golden for almost all your jobs again...IMO.....

If I still lived in NYC where it snows a lot I would had no choice but to upgrade...
Good luck on whatever direction you choose... and do post your thoughts on which ever you get.:props:

Id look into a mcculloch 1385 its only 200 shipped via amazon

If you end up going with a mytee firebird i know a site that sells it new for 215
Specs look better, but i have read reviews of it not holding up o well

I detail a lot of jacked up cars with beyond filthy carpets, I use both a steamer and extractor. I most certainly couldn't do my job with out my extractor, that's for sure.

Hey FTA Ryan, how many gallons of water does it take you to extract 4 carpet mats? I'm trying to figure out if I should go HP60 or HP100 for a high volume mobile set up.

My first warning for mobile is you will need a generator, both machines draw 20 amps and household circuit breakers are only rated to 15. That being said I can't really give you a number on what it takes to do floor mats. We mostly do full interior carpet and even seats some times. With the hp60 it gets filled 2-3 times on average per vehicle.

Good to know! I will be getting a honda eu2000! I may need to have a small tank of water then.
