Buffing Pads

I’ve been toying around the idea of buying a new DA buffer.

Currently I have the porter cable I really only use it to apply wax.

The one thing I hate about it is the hook and loop pads, I can never get them center like I want, there annoying.

For my rotary I have the 3m quick connect pads which are awesome there, centered every-time and there two sided.

If I do buy a new DA buffer I want to be able to use them pads or something similar that’s quick connect. I haven’t even looked into thread sizes yet or anything just wanted to know what pads everyone else is using on their DA

You're about 10 years too late. When Aaron "shark tank" sold the Edge line to 3M, they discontinued the DA portion of the line.
 
I was using the Edge double sided quick disconnect but 3M in their infinite wisdom discontinued them. I have since switched to Buff and Shine with hook and loop. I may not get them exactly centered but a DA is random anyway so it doesn't matter if I am off a little. I still use the edge wool quick disconnects on the rotary, haven't tried the B&S pads on it yet.

I agree with Dave. The Buff and Shine pads are pretty easy to center.
 
How about the Rupes system. I believe that is why they have the hole in the middle of their pads.

The hole in the center of Rupes and Griot's Boss pads is a cooling hole not a centering hole.
 
Yes, but I also thought that I had read this could be used for centering also. Looked around, but I could not find it.

If the holes are the same size in both, all you would need is a correctly sized dowel. Stick it through the pad hole one one side, then insert the other end in the backing plate hole. Push down close to the center and you have your backing plate where you want it.

But: You would think if it was for centering, that they would be offering to sell you some "special centering tool" to make a couple bucks off of simple molded piece of plastic.

I checked out the buff and shine website. It seems like that had a pretty decent selection.

I might look into getting an adapter for the 3m quick connect to be able to use it on a DA. The only problem I can think of is the pads are meant for a rotary I don't know how well they will work on a DA.
 
so many options on pads for the DA these days. lake country, b&s, griots, and megs all have great offerings. it just comes down to personal preference...
 
I'm currently using the new Meguiar's DA Foam Discs. The new cutting disc leaves an amazing finish!
