MF or Foam Pads for GG6 First Timer

Depends how the paint currently stands and how much correction you are after.
Personally I use megs mf cutting disks and lake country white pads for the basics. Megs UC and UP can be mixed and matched with either of those pads to your desire. That's what I did my first time and still do it on the cars at home

When I started doing machine polishing I stuck with foam pads until I got the hang of it then added a few MF pads later as I needed them. If you start with MF most likely you'll still need some foam pads for finishing. You might want to take a look at the Buff & Shine flat foam pads--very durable and they have a recessed velcro backing that adds an extra margin of safety when polishing near protuding objects like mirrors etc.
Another option would be the Megs THIN foam pads--very good reviews and the maroon cutting pad has almost the same cut as a MF but finishes very well.

This is the only problem spot. The rest of the car has some light swirls which aren't coming out in a picture because its cloudy today. The car is 2012 Toyota Camry.

I bought Megs 105 and 205. I planned to start with the polish and see how it looks afterward but was mainly looking for pad and a backing plate suggestion.

I just got my gg6 Friday and with it I got a set of meguiars thin discs and their 5" backing plate....from what I've read and heard that combo should cut very well, and the cutting disc is supposed to finish down very well....I'm gonna give it a go tmrw and see how it does....I have Ultimate compound and 205 polish to work with

I would go with foam pads. I do not even have MF Pads in my arsenal. I do fine with foam pads and see no need for MF Pads. Again, that is me. Others may see that differently.

That problem spot is deep and unlikely to polish out completely.
Much of the white color in the scratches looks like paint transfer. There are lots of good threads on paint transfer removal with techniques that are faster and less aggressive than grinding on it aggressively with compound and a DA.

Objective is to take out light swirls created when I use to put my car through a car was with brushes.

(for example) both the yellow megs polishing pads and lake country white pads are pretty similar, so depending on the paint you would have to try both of them out and see which will work out better. I have various pads from lake country, megs, buff & shine and it's a good idea to have a few different ones as you may come across a situation where one may work better than the other. if there is one thing you can never have enough of it's pads...

I'm going to keep it simple and start with the Megs thin pads to start.
Is there a 5 inch backing plate best to use with these?

while the same thing can be achieved with a sharpie, it's nice that this DA backing plate has two lines on it so you know if it's rotating...
Meguiars 5 Inch DA Foam Discs 6 Pack
get at a minimum of at least 3-4 of each of both of the yellow polishing and burgundy cutting foam discs, the more the better!

Meguiar's pads are awesome. I used the soft buff pads years ago.
Their microfiber pads are the best I've used.
I like having the microfiber option, as well as the foam. These days, the Lake Country Hydrotech are my foam of choice, and I will be augmenting them with Meguiar's microfiber discs.
One day I'll get around to the meguiar's foam discs.
