I have lexus IS 250 2008.
Im not sure why this happened to the rims. MY guess is terrible brake dust or just a defect.
I know i can take it to a professional and pay about 100 per rim but i am selling it and really dont want to put any money into it. I have seen some you tube video on fixing them but wanted to get some opinions here. I am also wondering if i attempt to fix them myself how i can get the exact paint to match what is on the car now in case i don't want to do all of them. And where i can get a good kit that has what i need sand level, prime and paint them.

That's corrosion that would be a project for a professional body shop there is to much corrosion to fix correctly.at a 100 a rim I would run and beg them to do it.or just reduce price of car.

If I owned a body shop I probably wouldn't do those wheels,or charge 300 per rim easily.

I actually dont' know how much it would be. i assumed 100. for 3 hundred i could buy new ones. lol

If you just looking for a used car quick fix because your selling it I would head to your local parts store and grab some 240 or 320 grit sand paper and some paint sticks to wrap the sand paper around. Unfortunately I don't think your going to find any rattle can paint to match the wheels perfectly but look and see what Dupli-Color paint that's close (the parts store, an Ace hardware or Home Depot). Just peel off a small section from the wheel and take it in the store with you. Any good bare metal/self-etching primer will do. The problem is how much more money do you think you can really get on the final selling price after fixing them? You will probably have more than a few hours into the job depending on your experience. Its all about return on investment. Hope that helps!

Good info, but those are really hammered wheels your lookin at a full day of sanding and priming before you get to the paint, this is not a driveway quick fix.i would just reduce car a little bit before going down highway to hell.

LOL your such a dream smasher! I think he just wants it to look a little better than it is now. No need for total perfection when you're just sending the car down the road...
Those Lexus wheels are probably 3k.

yes im not really trying to get better money, It's just that the rest of the car looks very good and if someone looks at it the rims are gonna stand out.

I just say the truth nothing wrong with that, those wheels won't accept better they need a lot of work.Ive painted a lot of wheels in my time and honestly that is not a job for the inexperienced or experienced wheels are a pain too do.rattle cans are horrible they spray dry never right and the clear is not durable.just saving him aggravation money and time from years off expertise.

Bring to to a wheel place, get them media blasted then painted or powder coated. Way too time consuming to do it by hand.

Or as mentioned earlier order a set from All Factory Alloys. $117 each. 2006-2008 Lexus IS350 17 74188 - All Factory Wheels
For 117 it's a no brainer I agree on the repair part that's the correct way to do it,my point was a do it yourself project will not come out reasonably acceptable with hand sanding, the wheel itself under the paint looks damaged.my 3k price tag was a dealer purchased.good info

My dad had the same problem with his old RX300 and had the link handy. 2 years later the wheels still looked fantastic. No complaints from him.

Sand them. Aggressively. prime and paint! The YouTube videos show it all. I've done my own wheels and they've lasted. But it's all in the prep

Or if you wanna do it and forget, plastidip
