Vacuums

i also purchased a reducer, and a pack of small bits. i'll see if i can find it and edit this

CFM is how quickly is moves air, Water lift is more like the torque measurement. WL is the true suction rating.

But wait, in that case mine owns yours when it comes to vacuuming because that's "moving air".

Yours is better when it comes to cleaning up a flooded basement.

Lmao. I'm just kidding.😊

Glad this topic popped up today. I have been looking to replace my current 12 gal vac with something smaller in size.

Eldorado2k,

I figured that going down to a smaller diameter hose from the 2 1/2" to the 1 1/4" would actually INCREASE suction, where you said downsizing the hose diameter will actually lessen suction.

Whoa, that's a change in thinking for me. Not sure why that is?

I also seen you mentioned a muffler. Is this a buyable attachment to reduce noise?

Thanks man, and have a great one!

Yup. When I 1st got the vacuum I experimented a bit and came to that conclusion not only based on how it was picking up, but also based on the force of the wind it was putting out of the exhaust port in the back while the vacuum hose was working in the front.... Once I saw that I tested the force to see how it would blow sheets of paper away and there was a noticeable difference, which confirmed my thoughts. The smaller hose throttles the suction power and that sucks.

Then I called Ridgid customer service and they also confirmed it. Which I give them credit for being honest and also for knowing there product. The lady on the phone was beyond knowledgeable about all things Ridgid. Thumbs up to their CS👍🏽

As far as the muffler attachment yea they sell it at Home Depot for $12. It really doesn't quiet the noise down dramatically, but what it does do is prevent the exhaust port in the rear from shooting a fierce blast of air directly behind the vac. So if you're inside the house for example, it's ridiculous trying to use with that strong blower pointing at a wall, or worse at my cat. She hated that. Lol. Now the air doesn't blow when the muffler is on and no dust can get kicked up to mess up an interior.

The muffler doesn't fit all Ridgid models. Only the med/larger ones. It fits the WD 4070 4 gallon 5hp and similar/larger vacs.

VERY Helpful! Thanks a ton man!

By the looks of the upcoming 3 month forecast, it seems that you guys(Cali) are going to be getting some MUCH needed rain this winter. Hopefully that helps things to comeback after your long term drought.

Take Care!

Niiiiiice! Great Beading man! What kind of sealant or wax do you have on there right now?

Umm... I'm not sure if I l'm in the mood to get viciously flamed like I would be if I disclosed what I really use... Lets just say it would shock the hell out of people if I answered that question honestly.

Like Jack Nicholson said,

"You can't handle the truth"! Lol.

But yes, it beads. It beads like nothing else.

I probably know what it is then. Not for sure, but pretty sure. And unfortunately that does happen here. It doesn't even have great or a lot of reviews here.

But I feel it always looks gorgeous and beads like mad on my cars, and is also super easy to apply and take off.

I'm happy it doesn't get a lot of CRED on here, that way it's my little secret.

If your looking for something smaller, the ridgid 4 gal is actually pretty impressive. I use it daily and it has really good suction (actually better than the 9 gallon ridgid I used to have. I'm limited on space with my mobile rig just being an HHR so I had to go small, but I'm glad i was forced to switch.

Once I get into my shop I'll probably look for a larger more powerful vacuum with better lift for the shop, but I'll stick by the small version for mobile jobs.

@Willowcat11. Guess it. If you guess it right than I'll come out. But you have to be specific, can't just be part of the thing, it's gotta be the complete name the way it's labeled. If you think you know, which I doubt. Heck no I don't think you'd know about it. Lol.
1 try only.

And I don't care about getting flamed. Because I'm prepared to back it up. Lol.

Interesting opinion about the metro-vac. My honest opinion is its way overpriced. It's a bag style and they are small so you need to buy bags constantly. It was just as loud as a shop vac with muffler and after it got heated up the hose would start to scream at you. The hose is a metal spring wrapped in vinyl and wears out quickly. On top of all that it's not a wet/dry vac.

I have one with the reusable cloth bag, yes I have to empty it a lot more often than a shop vac. And yes it's not a wet vac. But it's awesome, I got it on a 20% off sale with the carry bag they make for it. I have the vac + all the attachments + a 50 foot 12/3 extension cord all in the bag. And it still takes up like 1/2 the room my shop vac does. Outside of it not being a wet vac, there's nothing I don't like better about it over my shop vac. I have one, but haven't touched it since I got my Metro.

Hownlong is the hose? And what's the diameter of it? Do you also use it as a blower?

We have 2 Doyal model seventy eights with a 25 foot vacuum hose. Twin Motors a little loud. They have been in our shop for 15 years.

Thanks for the input, didn't know how good the smaller units were to use.
