CQuartz Dlux Plastic & Wheel Coating

How many ppl are using this on wheels? I read alot about plastic trim application but not much wheel application. Even online the do not mention much about using it on wheels in

the product description. I used it on my Challenger wheels 2 years ago and it seemed ok but I don't really drive that car much. Just wondering if I need to use Dlux strictly for

plastic and get a coating that's strictly for wheels

I use it on all the wheels that I coat. I have tried DLUX and Wolfgang Uber on wheels. Personally I didn't have any beading with Wolfgang oddly enough so I went back to using strictly DLUX on wheels. DLUX has held up great on the cars I've used it on. Big fan. I actually use it 70% for wheels and maybe only 30% for trim.

Ive used Dlux extensively on wheels for a long time. Proper prep is key, like applying any coating. The ease of cleaning is an easy selling point for me.
 
there are better options out there. i know it has its followers. i'm not one of them.

DLUX is susceptible to alkaline cleaners and abrasion. ime it's just not that tough. a lot of non-acid wheel cleaners are alkaline. and abrasion...welp, road wash is abrasive. is it better than a lot of sealants on wheels? ok, yeah. it's probably way better than any "wheel wax" or sealant.

wheels see chemicals, brake dust, road wash, etc. and that is where you want something buff on there to handle all of that over time.

while something like Opti-Coat would be ideal, that's obv pro only. 2.0 used to be an awesome consumer option for wheels. but, it's NLA. so, i'd look into the new Wolfgang coating or maybe even the new version of Gloss Coat. to be honest, you can even use Opti-Lens on wheels and the same trims you can use DLUX and it'd be more durable as the chemistry is more robust. hard plastic wheel well liners, rocker plastic, etc. if you don't believe me, ask Dr. G from OPT.

The thing with DLUX on wheels. There is no need to use any chemicals to clean the wheels, besides a nice car soap product. Grime and brake dust doesn't stick to it. That's been my experience anyway and it lasts quite a long time.

And, if you're talking about abrasion. Nothing will hold up to curb rash or any scraping.

ahaha, i'm not talking about rash/scraping. come on hahahaha

i mean road wash in particular, on top of brushes w/ brake dust, etc. over time.

the chemistry dictates it's not that tough. if you can remove something with an alkaline APC and elbow grease, there are better options for wheels. i'm not saying it doesn't work. it's just not the best choice. i know people love it. i don't.
 
Gotcha. Sorry, I read it quite quickly and thought I read "rash". My bad. I get a good 9-12 months of protection it seems with DLUX on wheels. However, I do have a nice new tube of 20cc 2.0 sitting around. :dblthumb2:

Thank you for the replies. Appreciate it. I'll continue to use it on my Challenger wheels and

maybe next time around look into something more robust for my dd.

What are you using to apply Dlux to this wheel..as far as an applicator?

If you want a user friendly wheel coating, go with DP WHEEL COAT. Protection is months. Went thru PA winters without issue. And its BOGO right now.
 
I like cquartz UK better. Did a non scientific study of application of both products --- each was applied to a front and back wheel -- and appearance, ease of cleaning, and durability go to UK.

It appeared that the UK wheels were cleaner between washes, i.e. There was less brake dust sticking.

I like dlux on the wheels but I can't get the hang of applying it. After a few minutes after application I'll smooth it out and the towel always sticks to it and screws up the look. I've tried letting it cure a little longer and then it's too late to smooth out.

When I apply it I go really thin with the application and leave it kind of wipe on walk away. Not sure if that's proper but it works well.
 
Maybe I'm applying too thick. It's hard to tell how well your getting coverage applying really thin

I agree, me and my boy did his wheels a few months ago and they are holding up good. Soap and water is all you need to clean them up:dblthumb2:

I feel the same way. What did you use on the tires?
