I'm detailing a Lincoln MKT and a Mercedes S63 with a retractable glass roofs. How can I find out if certain vehicles have a tinted glass or film tint on the roof? I know some of the Corvettes with glass roofs has a tint film on it. What is the best way to remove the water spots from either of these types of Glass Roofs? Also what is the finish on the edge of these retractable glass roofs. Is that plastic? I noticed that there is some bird dropping etching going on that. I didn't want to start polishing and create more problems. Thanks

Search for glass polish on the Autogeek site. You may want to try Wolfgang Perfekt Vision and a foam pad. I use it and have had good results with removing water spots and also to prep glass before a glass coating.

Usually there is a rubberized trim gasket around the glass you may want to tape that off so you don't stain it while polishing.

Factory tinted glass does not have "tint" film on the outside or inside of the glass. For cars that have had tint applied "aftermarket", the film should always be applied on the interior side of the glass. The easiest way to tell is to roll the window down just a bit, look at the top edge of the window you will see the tint film line, again on the inside of the glass.

If you ever ran across tint film on the outside, well then someone didn't apply properly. At which point I wouldn't touch that job.

Thanks High Caiber I understand the Window tint on the inside of the side windows. I talking about the Glass Roofs on some of these vehicles. I did a 2012 Corvette with a factory glass roof with a small scratch what I thought was in the glass when actually it was in the film on the outside of of the glass roof. Needless to say by polishing it I made it worse.

I'm confused as to why you would need to confirm if it was tinted or not, tint is done from the inside, not outside. Maybe I missed something? Generally I do a foam bath then handwash followed by clay. I finish off with a general polish on a foam pad and have no problems.

I was gonna get involved but didn't know precisely what he was asking.vettes are acrylic and can be buff able .S63 is glass, and I would of tape up the window moldings to prevent staining,I think it anodized aluminum. Then spritz some iron x agitate and rinse.no need for all that buffing work on roof glass.cleaner wax on vettes should be effective.

The top-coat film on tinted acrylic roofs
is usually what is called a "hard coating"
that contains UV-protectors/absorbers.

I use DuraGloss Nu Glass (DG 755) on real glass roof material. Tape up the non glass edges and go to town with Nu Glass. For non glass roof material i like a good AIO or paint cleaner product. Sometimes thats DG501.
