Hello all,

I decided to run a Groupon to assist me in finding some customers. Curious if any of you have ran a Groupon, and if you have, what did you find that worked the best for you? Thanks again for the insight.

Sam,

First of all:
:welcome: ...to AGO!

{Another oldie-but-a-goodie moment(?)}:

Groupon? Groupon brings to
mind this parsimonious saying:

"G@$, gr@$$, or (b)@$$—nobody rides for free"!

Be sure to make the ad a little confusing...where the buyers may have to call you with questions before they purchase. This way...while your on the phone with them, you can ask them to just go through you, and not buy the Groupon voucher. At least this way, Groupon won't get half, and it will be somewhat profitable.

Good way to get a pissed off customer because he expected more.

Not sure what you mean? The service is the same whether the customer buys the voucher or not...when the customer goes through you directly, groupon won't take half.

You said to make it confusing which imo is never a good idea.

I agree on normal circumstances...but with groupon, it's actually a great idea...you get to talk to them first and explain everything...ask them questions like excessive dirtiness or pet hair...before they buy commit to buying a voucher.

If I see a detailer on Craigslist or groupon,I won't be calling but that's just me.

Please don't use you Groupon (they're a rip-off and you end up making NO MONEY) UNLESS you are planning on upselling the groupon customers later. I tried this once and I ended up breaking even on all the washes I did through there. Then the next stupid mistake I made was that I didn't capture all the customers information when they used the groupon...i.e. their email address. If I would've done this, I could've added more customers to my pipeline and eventually sold them on my subscription services. To be honest though, my target customers don't use groupon. So first you need ot ask yourself, is my target customer using groupon? If you're not sure you can try it anyway and see how it goes, but I'd concentrate on mediums and platforms where your target customers are.
