Can someone talk me out of Zymol Vintage?

Well, you know that old saying "he's got more money than sense"? Well..........does it apply? Put it in a college fund for your little bun you have proofing in the oven;)

Yea, thats taken care of too, and I more money in my ash tray than sense anyways.......

THAT being said, buy what you want, when you want!! lol.....I know if everything else was taken care of I probably would. You can't take it with you my friend......enjoy the finer things in life while you can. Remember though, it's just a car wax!

Just kidding, obviously your finances say you have some sense.

Congrats on the girl! I've got two and couldn't imagine life without them.

As for the Vintage.....mmmm...well lets just say you won't be disapointed ;)
 
Its a WAX, not a magical potion. Remember, wax only plays a small roll when it comes to how good a car looks. Put that money toward any future paint repairs you might need. I dont care how nice of a wax is on your car if you have a huge dent or scratch in it.
 
you only live once go with your gut-feeling.There is a zymol dealer and detail shop real close to me and I went there to get a wheel brush and the guy was showing me all the cars with diffrent kinds of zymol on them and I could not tell the diffrence from vintage,titanium and concours.They all looked good but a 1700$ wax is pointless for me when my garage queen is white.

I'd say if you want the wax, get it. You obvioulsy can pay for it, so just get it and stop worrying bout it.

But only get it if you send me some!

Obviously with waxes you get marginal returns in terms of looks. But there is something inside me that wants to get the Vintage, I had it in the shopping cart, but chickened out.

Here's my take...this is pretty much like buying stocks, buy what you can afford to lose, and not regret it
That being said, if money is not an issue, and $30K is not going to hurt you now, or in the future, then go for it...

Here is the way I see it, it is a wax! Waxes should not cost that much.... But wait a minute.... Let me reflect on other things I have spent money on in life.

1. Several baseball and hockey cards costing several $k's each. Yep, I get to look at some ugly dude holding a bat or hockey stick for my money.... I don’t even get to take it out of its container.

2. Old Oil Cans. I have several old oil cans (White Rose) that I have spent hundreds on, heck I didn’t even get the oil, just the empty can!

3. 1950's Gas pump. Ok, I have about $3K into an old gas pump restoration, it has a neat original White Rose Glass Globe on it and looks real cool, it sits in my rec room and the mofo doesn’t even pump gas! LOL

There are just three things... To many I have totally wasted my money but I just love looking at these things, they simply sit there and do nothing, they barely go up in value either. I sit downstairs and flick my Gas Pump Globe on and just smile yet I have people who see it and simply don't get it.

When you have money to spend and hobbies to spend it on....the way you please yourself is up to you! Heck, you can grab a handful of Solaris or Vintage and pleasure yourself :) Lets see my gas pump do that!
 
If you can tell the difference between Vintage and the cheaper ones, it might be worth it. I've tried Atlantique ($1100/8oz) and Titanium ($71/8oz) and there's such a subtle difference. Titanium does look very wet and glossy, Atlantique give it a little deeper and wetter look. But not $1k difference.

I agree. Even though I've at times wondered about purchasing super-expensive waxes, when the logical side of my brain kicks in there's almost just no justification for it.

A thread on another forums comparing, side-by-side, vintage to zaino really confirmed this...there's no or minimal difference between a moderately priced wax/sealant and an exorbitantly priced wax. No way in hell I'd pay such a ridiculous price for a product whose cost of ingredients comes nowhere near the asking price.

I do enjoy some luxury items here-and-there, but there comes a point where products are over-priced simply to create an air of mystique and spawn an artificial desire in people to acquire them: IMO Vintage being one of them.

It's the law of diminishing returns here. Something like PS may (subjectively) have a 20% nicer look than NB, but the more money you pay above something like PS, the lower and more expensive that percentage of increase in (subjective) beauty becomes. Is a wax that (subjectively) looks 5 - 10% better than PS worth the $1,800-or-so premium over PS? To me, not a chance.

On caveat. If I were a full-time professional detailer who could charge a substantial premium to recoup the cost of the wax, then yes, I'd do it. Otherwise, it's throwing money down the drain. Free refills or not.
 
In the end, our good man FMINUS is going to buy or not buy based on his own gut feeling. It's the initial shelling over of the money that is the biggest hurdle. If he doesn't get it, he'll be wanting it. Once he receives it and is happy with it, well, then we've just come full circle!

What good does the money do in the bank account anyways? You don't see it, you don't get to play with it, but wax... DO IT!

PS: I have read before that the unlimited refills aren't quite so "unlimited". If Zymol finds that you "abuse" it, they can but you off at any point. You might want to call them first and see what it's all about.

Otherwise, what would prevent you from gettting a full pot, sending samples to all of us and then get refills again?
 
Zymol can refuse the refills at any time. Especially if you send it every week. I think the general rule is once a year type deal. I also read that Zymol, as a company, isn't what everyone believes it to be. Since they have a popular name in the detail industry that everyone can remember and knows, they feel like they can charge whatever they want for a wax, IMO. So every time someone decides to waste the money on a very expensive wax, Zymol is reaping all of the rewards, probably 95% profit, that is. The only person that will get some satisfaction out of owning an expensive wax is the owner ... a customer would never be able to tell a difference between Vintage and say Souveran or Natty's red. But whatever floats your boat, if someone wants to get a "prestige" wax then go for it. It's your money and basically just handing it over to the management at Zymol which makes them thing they can now get $30,000 for a wax. Ridiculous.
