Hey guys,
Can I use a cutting MF pad or orange pad with the Megs Paint Reconditioning Cream. Its on a customers vehicle but not doing an extra paint correction.

Normally I would use my green pad but can I use a cutting pad?
 
If you are only getting compensated for a one step go for it.

If you move from a foam polishing pad to a microfiber cutting pad you will be trading finishing ability for cut. On dark colored paint you may notice DA haze that will require an extra step to clear up.
 
Since PRC is usually used to both correct and protect, I feel the orange pad is the best solution for using that product. It will give you good cut removing most of the swirl while finishing decently. I cannot comment on MF cutting pads since I don't use them.

Very true. On my own black cars I always use a micro fiber for cutting now, only because I know no matter what I'm going back for a second finishing step. I generally don't waste time with foam cutting pads any longer, they just are not nearly as good
 
Megs PRC works great with an Orange Foam Cutting Pad. Better than decent cut and a very underrated shine!

All these AIO's seem to favour the general purpose Orange pads which offer a balance of cut and gloss.
 
The Lake Country Tangerine Hydrotech also works well with all in one products.
 
Thanks guys. If I needed to finish up with say a polish like HD polish, what color pad. MF finishing pad, green, white???

If you need to finish up don't use HD Polish.. Doing so will remove the protection layed down by D151, which in turn will defeat the whole purpose of having used it. If you need to finish up, use the same PRC with a polishing/finishing pad, just as the label suggests.

Best bet is to do a couple test spots with what you have and see what results you can get, or how aggressive a pad you can get away with.

You would switch to a less aggressive pad first and be happy with your results for a one step, or you would go with a full two step compound/polish(AIO) combo.

A test spot and realistic customer expectations for a one step. Added gloss. Light to medium swirl removal depending on the paint. No scratch, or very light, scratch removal.

A light polish, or one step, can also make the worse defects stand out more.
 
Here's a production detailing tip for all-in-one type products like Meguiar's D151:

This method requires two polishing machines.

1. Setup machine #1 with a cutting pad and prime pad with product.
2. Setup machine #2 with a polishing pad and prime the pad with product.
3. Use machine #1 (cutting) to product the correction results you're after.
4. Do not wipe off the product form the paint.
5. Use machine #2 to refine the paint to a high gloss finish.
6. Wipe off a small area and inspect.
7. If finish quality is not haze free, clean the pad on machine #2 and make a final pass (without adding any new product).

This gives you the ability to basically do a 2-step 'correction' process but saves you the time of wiping off product in between the cutting and polishing stages. Also it saves on the amount of product you'll use on each vehicle since you're extending the working time of the product from the cutting stage to the polishing stage.
 
Does anyone know if the Meguiars Paint Reconditioning Cream is sold locally, and if so where? Or is it only available online?
