Well, I tried a wierd combo after all my compounding/wet sanding/polishing (I even snuck some Menzerna 106ff in the polishing mix).

I did my usual 3M Ultrafina SE application, then power washed the excess from the car and dried. Instead of just using #26, I decided to add XMT 360 to the pad and work both products completely. Gotta say, it made a difference and buffing was virtually non-existent. The finish is smooth beyond my expectations.

Here's my starting Extra Cut Smiley:

I'm gonna try this combo on a "waiting-in-line" 2001 X5 4.4i (black of course).

That final combo really made a difference. The biggie is working it until it's finished. I mean, there is zero buffing done to this car. I just worked the product mix until it finished out, backed the car into the sun and took these pics.

Heck, who knows if I decreased the longevity of 26 or XMT 360. I suspect the sealant in 360 is what caused this nice turnout and the carnuba in the 26 gave it the depth.

Toto

So you topped 360 with #26?

Nope! Mixed them together on the same pad! 4 dots of 26 and 4 dots of 360 and let the Festool work until it gave the finish you see in the pics. Didn't even pic up a microfiber towel!

Awesome as usual Toto! Is that BSM or JB paint?

Not sure if I figured out your initials: BSM=Black Sapphire Metallic (that's what it is)
JB=Jet Black (that's not what it is...but the X5 4.4i I'm starting on is)

Did I get that right? Or get a Demerit for not studying up on my Bimmer colors LOL! The dealer gets me all the time about models, colors, etc. I just laugh it off cause I'm too old and cranky.

Nice!
I can't wait to get my XMT360 and XMT180. I like the way this car came out!

You got it Toto! I thought it looked like BSM from the 3rd pic down, the one of the front fender.

Thaty looks awesome.

I have some #26 and I love the depth of it. Need to get soem XMT 360 to buff out some of the swirls/light scratches I have.

Danny: the 360 does a good job on "very" light swirls and scratches.

Couple of last reflection shots. The new owner picks the car up later today.

The interior came out very nice...it wasn't too bad condition-wise.

just wondering, have you ever detailed something that wasnt a BMW and black???

looking great as always toto, adding a liquid wax to 360 sounds cool, makes like a "Super Cleaner Wax"

I am getting a reputation for doing black cars...probably not a bad thing for my resume'
