I have a Chemical Guys Torq 10fx now. Had it about a year with no major issues. Just looking to upgrade to something better. I don't like the stall when using the Nanoskin auto scrub disc and other pads when doing correction. Is the Flex 3401 that I have been looking at the best machine for me? Being it's an investment, I just want to do all the research possible before dropping coin on anything.

Also, I have all 5.5" pads. Will I be able to run those on the Flex with stock setup? Or will I need a new backing plate?

Pros and cons of the Flex?

Thanks in advance!

the flex 3401 is like a hybrid cross between a DA and Rotary and being forced rotation means no stalling. it's built like a tank and has been a proven workhorse for many years. not to mention there's an authorized repair facility in omaha, nebraska (powerhouse distributing) if there were any problems at some point in time. if you were interested in a large throw DA, the G15/21 would be an excellent choice as well with proven top notch customer service and warranty...

It's hard to chooae. It took me forever to pull the trigger but went with a griots g21. I think personally any of them would be fine along with right combo pad and polished.

Love my 3401. Put it off for a long whle as my vehicles are spotless but after being asked by others to help them, the old-school PC and what not are too slow. The 3401 is the S4 of machines :)

Although I don't do paint correction. (Just work on gelcoat) I love my 3401. Powerful and extremely ergonomical. Also a lot lighter compared to my Mikita Rotary

Can I use 5.5" pads with stock setup and backing plate?

Hi Jeremy, I recently picked up the FLEX XFE to add to my FLEX collection. I wanted a traditional DA to compliment my other FLEX machines. I have the PE14/3401/XFE.

With that out of the way, I have tried using the Nanoskin medium grade pads on the XFE to see how it would compare to using them on the 3401. I experienced pad stall on curves and quickly put the Nanoskin pad on the 3401 and got back at it. IME, there is no faster or better way to use the Nanoskin pads than with the 3401. It will never stall out on curves not to mention you put considerable down force on the machine and it just keeps turning.

I surely would pick up the FLEX 3401 to add to your arsenal. They way I do it is use either the PE14 or 3401 for correction work and setup the XFE for finishing duty. In your case, set up the 3401 for correction and TORQ for finishing. Also the 3401 is KING for AIO work.

You can use the 5.5" pads with the 3401 but you will need the 4 3/8" plate to run them.

If you don't like the stalling, you'll love the Flex 3401.

I pulled the trigger on the 3401 today. Got the Meguiars kit with compound and pads, and ordered the 6 pad combo of 6.5"s as well.

Congrats!

Thank you! I'm looking forward to getting my hands on it. Having a trigger will be nice too. My fingers frequently seem to find the speed adjustment buttons on the Torq when changing positions. That and the stalling are my biggest complants about the Torq.

My buddy is buying it with all 15 pads. Worked out good!

Can't go wrong with the 3401 I love mine. I upgraded from my PC and it's faster, quieter, smoother. Also there is a lock button so you don't need to old the trigger the whole time. Once you hit the trigger or press the lock again it'll turn off

Should be here Friday. Excited to get it and try it out. I will apply a coat of wax on my wife's car to get use to it then have a full customer detail Saturday.
