Pictures - 1989 Mercedes-Benz - Low Mileage Beauty All Original Beauty!

Last night we did a show car makeover to Bob and Darlene's all original, low-mileage 1989 Mercedes-Benz 560 SL with the original single stage paint.

First here's all the products we used to go over the outside and the inside and restore this 27 year old car back to factory fresh.

Wow, car looked pretty good as it.was, now it is just ridiculous.

What a beauty , you and the guys did a great job Mike.

Did you use #7 first as usual Mike? I know that its an important step for oxidized single stage, But the car had some gloss when it came in, Did you approach it differently?

Actually, the day it arrived it was cloudy outside so I wasn't able to photograph the true condition of the paint. BEFORE we started I did take pictures of the swirls using the FLEX Swirl Finder Light and I'll post those as soon as I get time.

I also used the Defelsko Paint Thickness Gauge to take measurements of the paint thickness over the various horizontal panels.

Teamwork got the job done. We did use the Griot's 6" DA Polisher with Wolfgang Uber Compound and get this.... Lake Country white foam POLISHING pads, not cutting pads.

You guessed it.

We machine applied #7 AFTER the last machine polishing step and then applied Wolfgang Fuzion.

I'll explain why when I get back to this thread but right now I need to do some work for Velocity TV.

Believe me that car came out great.I love it when only a small amount of experienced guys show up to do these small cars.Nobody`s tripping over each other and we work well together. As an added bonus there`s more pizza to go around as well.

Car looks awesome Mike, and that red is gorgeous on the Mercedes, excellent work as usual Mike, congrats to the entire team.:dblthumb2:

Car looks so good in person, I don't think pictures actually do justice to it...and it was pleasure to work with.

I agree. The pictures don't do the results justince and working on single stage paint is my favorite.

It's about 7:00am Saturday morning as I type this and the car is on display in the Show Car Garage for this morning's Tech Session at Autogeek's Cars & Coffee show.

While getting laundry caught-up...

I was sorting pads from microfiber towels and thought I would share this picture showing how many pads we went through buffing out Bob and Darlene's 1989 Mercedes-Benz SL 500 with the factory single stage paint

Looks like,

8 LC 5.5" White foam polishing pads for the Wolfgang Uber Compound

6 LC 5.5" Black foam finishing pads for the Wolfgang Finishing Glaze

3 LC 5.5" Blue foam waxing pad to machine apply Meguiar's #7 Show Car Glaze

4 LC 5.5" Blue foam waxing pads to machine apply Wolfgang Fuzion Paste Wax

To anyone new to machine polishing... more pads are better. Don't try to do each step with a single pad. When you get into machine polishing buy extra pads.

That was 4 guys with machines (plus Mike) as Jeff did the wheels, trim, bumpers ect. I used 2 of the white pads as I don`t have to do the laundry at AUTOGEEK, not yet at least.)

wait for it...and you will be doing laundry duty next time...j/k...It was one of my favorite projects at AG. They are all good,( I am still newbie compared to some other guys), but for some reason I really enjoyed it, small group of guys...great car, paint was easy to work with, products worked flawlessly...LOT"S of Pizza :P

Always nice to see a car at about 30 or so years old and in this good condition. Ive been to a couple car shows where paint is faded, cracked, or the whole car is literally falling apart.

Mike and guys my wife owned that exact car new from 1989-1993 and it never looked that good being professionally detailed every 3 months, Congrats outstanding job
