Hi all, I use Megs D156 and since I spray it everywhere (paint, glass, trim, chrome, etc) it got me thinking.....

I'm new to detailing and haven't really experimented with LSPs, but because my car is white, a DD, and I'm in the Florida sun I've been using Megs Ultimate Liquid Wax and have been happy with it.

i am thinking of using a cleaner wax intermittently too....haven't bought one yet, but might try Megs White Wax. I do NOT have a DA.

so, my questions are:

1- can I use a sealant (Megs ULW or similar) on the Windows?

2- Can I use a CLEANER wax (Megs White wax or similar) on the Windows?

3- Are there any CLEANER waxes/sealers that don't stain black trim?

thanks!

There are dedicated glass coatings that are available here. I believe that Pinnaclevmakes a glass sealant as well

IMO:
You already are using a Sealant,
D156, on the Windows.

If the Windows are "dirty" enough...
I don't see why not.

Even if there are...
I always "dress" the black trim before
applying any category of an LSP.
Results: Eliminates that type of staining.

Good tip! Thanks! I was trying to only buy LSPs that didn't stain trim so I didn't have to tape. I'm not very neat yet.

Even if they say they don't...do not trust that....just used one that claimed not to....got careless.....gave myself extra work to do

In terms of cleaning the windows, I recieved a free bottle of 3D Eraser Gel from an AG a while back and I can say it's done wonders for the cars I've used it on. 100% solid recomendation in terms of cleaning and getting the existing glass back to brand new clean and gunk free. Waterspots and crud are zero concern anymore.

From there I would say use the McKee's product noted above, which seems to have very solid reviews or for me currently, I'm using something like Blackfire Crystal Seal / Optiumum Opti Seal. Both do excellent at sealing them up and insuring smooth wiper action. I'd be Leary of waxes causing skipping or shuddering down the road.

Bob is right about dressing the trim before LSP. I do the same and use Collinite 845. When I (inevitably) hit the trim with this wax, it wipes right off with no evidence of staining.

Sealants can be used on glass without a problem but there are better options. I use Optimum Opti-Glass Clean and Protect on the windshield of most cars I detail. Super easy to use and good performance. I offer Opti-Glass coating as an upgrade but it is much more work to prep and apply.

No problems using a cleaner wax on glass but it is probably a waste of product and effort. Glass is much harder and not porous like paint is.

I use HD Speed a lot and never have an issue with staining trim. Just don't let any polish or wax dry on the trim. Even a "non-staining" product can stain if allowed to dry.

I don't dress trim first because I don't want to pick up the dressing with my applicator or towel when removing and smear the dressing onto the paint. Likewise, trying to get tape to stick to dressed trim is an exercise in futility.
