How old is everyone? (kind of a poll)

I was wondering how old is everyone. Especially professional detailers.

The reason I'm asking is because I would love to, one day, detail full time and live off of detailing.
The problem is that I'm already 38 and by the time I'm well established to live off of detailing, I'll be too old to do it.
I just started detailing part time and I estimate that in 4-5 years I'll have to quit.

Am I wrong? are there older detailers on here?

Errrr, ... ugh, ... I'm 51, and live off, struggle, suffer, and have a lot of fun, of full time detailing.
I don't know for how long I will keep up with this pace, but I take one day at a time.
As long as you keep healthy, I don't see any problem.
You are pretty young to me, even in five years time :)
Best regards

39 and Detailing full time after resigning from 16 years in Corporate IT.

So I might have more than 5 years to go. That's encouraging :)

Ahhh great for you. You decided to live your dream. When did you start full time?

Exactly one year this July. I couldn't handle giving presentations, daily board meetings, sitting behind a laptop behind a cubicle for a Global Fortune 500 company any longer.

You not brave doing what you want, you a fool if you don't...

I'm on the young side here at 17 but only detail as an enthusiast and on the side for money

You say you'll be too old...when
you reach the 43 year mark?!?!

Shoot,
I remember when the Dead Sea
was first starting to feel sick...
and, yet, I'm still going strong.

[Just thinking out loud...]

-You need to stay in top
physical shape; (I try to).

-Don't you still have "single payer"
Health Care up in the frozen north?

-See if you qualify for the below exercise
regimen (it's the one I've been on forever):

Yeah I guess the secret is to stay in shape.
I better start slacking up on Poutine.

46

Only detail as a hobby and for extra money here and there. Averaging about 1-2 vehicles per week lately. If I an pull down $400-$800mo. for hobby money it's worth it. Especially in the summer when I can kill 4-5hrs on a weekend. Most of mine have been 1 step corrections. The reality is most of the word of mouth I get just want a nice clean car to take to the car wash the week after. I'm okay, clear expectations......

Yup, keep in shape and you would be able to do this for at least another 20 years. SAVE SAVE SAVE as much as you can and in 20 you can retire on your own. You dont need a company pension to retire.

I'm 30.

Started detailing in my teens. Joined the marine corps and did it on the side if time permitted. Got out, went to school and got my degree in electrical engineering, did it on the side while I was in school as well. Especially during the summer. I still detail on the side but I would rather detail for a living than be an engineer. Cranking out math problems or mocking up blueprints gives me stress while detailing takes it away.

I will add that I always workout at least for an hour everyday before work which keeps me going, but if I can't squeeze that workout in, at least a 3 mile run.. I feel like it helps me especially for those long intensive details.

So far, I have the distinction of being the oldest to reply on this thread....57.....have always kept my vehicles clean, but just taking it to the next level. If I ever decide to try and make some money at this, even part time, it will be limited to 1-2 cars per week.

39.

In all honesty, I still feel like I'm 18.. I've been pretty physical all my life, so I'm used to moving. No aches or pains.... Things seem to get better as the years pass.

56 and I love detailing as if I were 26. I guess I'm just a big kid at heart.

The Dead Sea was already dead when I first heard about it, so Bob may have a few years on me. I am 61 and detailing is a hobby for me.

28, but only do it part time for friends and family. Thinking of doing it more part time as I'm starting to not really like the corporate world.
