I was taking my daughter back to college. So she comes up with this plan to save money by filling a empty container with bleach from the house. So of course she leaves it in the floor board in the back seat. I guess you can see what happened next. I was so pissed. It's been awhile now, I have since covered it with a floor mat. But any ideas? I am open to suggestions.

WTH!! Sadly that is trashed I would think. Bleached the color right out of the carpet. Maybe a matching carpet dye?

Sorry to see the accident that occurred, I had a customer with a similar issue but not as bad as yours. This is fixable tho buy some carpet dye make sure you match the color first. Do a thorough cleaning the carpet before applying the dye allow it to dry before applying to dye as well. Once you apply the guy wrote down all the windows in the vehicle and allowed to drive for 24 hours preferably in the garage

Hopefully the carpet is not to damaged from it. I had a customer who had a bottle of bleach leak and the spot where it was most concentrated was very brittle. If you touched it, it would just crumble.

It's still soft to the touch.

Agreed about the carpet dye being about the least expensive option short of ordering all new carpet.

Many years ago when I lived in Chicago, there was wax Factory I dealt with for many years called Nu Look. They catered and distributed largely to detailing businesses in the area, and beyond.

Made a lot of phenominal products, and carpet dye of basically any color you wanted could be had. Frank, the owner (been deceased many years) mixed up some pure black for me once, for my '68 SS396 Camaro, and while it was a stop-gap measure on the cheap, the carpet looked fantastic after, and the dye was quite durable, would not rub off.

I'm not sure how much luck you would have with an easily gotten product such as RIT Dye, but perhaps some here can point you in the right direction, or you may be able to find by search, specialty businesses on the web who specialize in making Dyes for vehicle carpet applications. I'm sure there's somebody out there who does.

You may never get an exact perfect match with such, but sure it would look much better than what it does now.

If it were me, I'd probably first try to "spot dye" the affected areas, and if the results were less than pleasing, I'd then probably resort to either doing the entire rear carpeting.

Hope I have not violated any forum rules, but here's a link to one such business who sells such dyes. You'll note they also make a bleach neutralizer that is used before dyeing.

I would just wash all if any remaining bleach out to prevent any further damage and keep it covered up. There is no easy fix.

agreed the fibers are gone and till this day I haven't found any carpet dye that matches even remotely close.

Sorry, that stinks. I originally didn't see the stains. I thought the bleached spots were overexposed sun/shadows.

Simple fix is replace the carpet. There's lots of options to do this. Less expensive is remove the carpet throughly wash and dry, reduce as close as possible then use floor mats over it. Soon you will forget about it. For cheap labor put a wrench in your daughters hands.

Could be worse she could have put it on your seats!

Yeah it could've been my seats. But if a rainy day comes or I got a few off days. I think I will try the carpet dye.

A quick search and I found some replacement molded carpets for <$200.
