After my last wash (waterless, thank you Pinnacle!) I did the trim on my daily driver with Mothers Back to Black and a MF towel. It looked very good.

To start.

After a little bit of rain, this is what I saw..

After finding this thread, I decided to take Nick's advice and be a bit more aggressive with the product.

I cleaned the trim with Einzsett Plastic Cleaner (1Z Sprayenoncarenskrubtokleanen), then applied the Back To Black with a foam applicator, then wiped with a terry cloth towel. It's to rain over the next few days so I'll post a follow up to see if the method made a difference. I have to admit, I'm starting to get curious about BlackFire Total Trim & Tire.

I've always found Mothers products to work quite well....except for the Back to Black. It might work well for conditioning/maintaining plastic trim, but not so much for restoring faded trim. Somebody on this forum did a massive write-up/review on trim restorers and had similar results.
 
Gosh with all the coatings out there,why are you still messing around with that.

Because I already had it in the garage. I bought it for my last vehicle and never got to use it.
 
Gtech is awesome for trim and super easy to apply.8 months so far on the wife's car.

Final Update: After two days of rain, a shopping trip, etc., I went out today to inspect the trim. This is along the bottom of the vehicle on the passenger side.

I tweaked the sharpness and contrast a bit
to show the details, but the photo is otherwise as it sits.​

The streaks are obvious where the water has run down through the door jam. I rubbed some with my finger to see if it was just on the surface, and it was definitely the product washing away.

To sum up, this bottle will be sitting curbside on Tuesday for collection. I am very disappointed as Mother's products have served me so well in the past. (Their Mag & Aluminum Polish, Clay Kits, and Chrome Polish, are all top notch.)

I'll be looking into Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant, as well as Backfire Total Trim & Tire in the very near future.
 
Just be glad the trim is at the bottom of the car.

My daughter's Mazda3 has some odd trim material that only seem to work with trim protectants with a more oily composition. Trim coatings don't work at all. I applied Black-to-Black on a lot of the trim bits and the stuff ran all over the freshly washed body panels. After the stuff has bled from the trip and then sat on the paint for a couple of days in the sun, it isn't easy to remove.

I would agree with getting a coating on the trim to get longer lasting and more durable results. I just used GTechniq C4 and it was easy to work with. Seems to be doing very well after the first wash.

Was expected as this product is not the most durable. From the two products you posted that you want to try next, Wolfgang would be my recommendation. I did not like Blackfire as it would never apply correctly. It would clump up on my applicator like pencil eraser shavings. Wolfgang is better in my opinion.

I like the Backfire Tire Gel that I sampled, but LOVE all of the Wolfgang products I've used so far.
Wolfgang will probably be next.
 
The problem with the Back-to-Black product line from my experience is it has some exceptional products (The rubber cleaners - Tire Renewal and Heavy Duty Trim Cleaner) and some WalMart consumer grade products. It seems to lead to a lot of confusion as to what is worth using and what isn't.

Interesting idea, but I'm not going to mess with this product any further.

It's like the old saying, "Once you go Back to Black, you pretty much switch to Wolfgang."

Or something.
