Vivid black for a newb

I have a new Harley that's in vivid black, and have done a good job so far keeping swirl marks off, but the paint is definitely in need of a protectant as small imperfections are starting to show up.

I use know a little about detailing, but the market has become saturated in the last decade, and this is my first black vehicle. So, just looking for a product guide for dummies. What microfibers do I need? Polish + wax? Keeping in mind that the Harley black is known to be pretty soft.

My dad in law uses Harley polish on his black bike and it does wonders. Not sure what kind of price point it is since its a hd branded product. I'd say anything that is of newer technology has the ability to produce results as long as the technique is correct. I have a friend who has a successful detail business i asked him what products i should buy to get the best results. His answer was find something you can afford and does a good job for you, it's all in your technique and products these days are all so advanced and capable compared to the old school days
 
I have a vivd black road glide. HD polish has finished down the best for me. I have tried Menzerna 4500, 205, Reflect, but HD polish won for me. Paint is so soft compound is not needed, hands down the softest I have ever dealt with.
I use high quality MFs' and waterless washes have resulted in some marring. My bike does has not seen rain or dirt, paint is that soft
I have used wax, sealant and now its coated. The coating, for me, has been the best. Stays cleaner longer so I touch it less.

What microfibers are you using and for what jobs? What wax? Thanks
 
Yeha, Id' go with HD Speed and you're good to go. Need a DA with a 3" or 4" set up. a PC with a 3.5 backing plate and 4" pads would be perfect for what you're doing. Get a Mothers small power ball too if you don't have one for polishing chrome etc.

I really prefer to do it by hand. The tank and front wheel fender are about the only things that need attention. The rest is either plastic or doesn't have softness.

Just a small point, polishing by hand can cause more issues than by machine simply due to the localised high pressure spots and associated marring on softer paint.. especilly those using an MF cloth to polish and not a foam hand polishing pad..
Just wanted to mention it as a "keep it in mind"..
