Topping Of Coatings?

Toppings in general be it of coatings or waxes are the point here, protection for your protection? Just PPF clear bra the paint then, oh wait gotta protect the protection of the protection of the protection and do 50 layers of coating on the clear bra which itself needs another layer or two of Reload. Oh wait, whats gona protect the Reload??? See my point? Where does one draw the line???
 
I think it may be different for some people. Just speculating, but if Collinite over a coating looks better than the coating (no idea if this happens), then you get the best of both worlds. Car has a certain look, and it has 2 years of protection when the Collinite is gone and you haven't reapplied. If a topper doesn't change the look of a coating, then I have no idea what the point would be.
 
Then I'd revert back to Bob's post. If I have to apply a topper to a coating to make it look good, then then the coating isn't worth considering IMO.
 
^^^Don't disagree and am not advocating it. Was suggesting why people may do it. Would be nice to see coatings categorized or rated based on "look" as well as ease of application and protection. More carnuba looking or not, more "wet" looking or not, etc.
 
Coatings give a certain candy gloss to a car that I like. But some people just want to add a little pop to it. Why not? It's like why do people buy aftermarket rims and picking out different tires? It's there so why not. Same thing with topping a coating. My car hasn't been washed for two weeks because I haven't had time. With a coating, I at least have peace of mind but if I just had typical wax or sealant I'd be a bit concerned. Still when spring comes, I can just give the car a good wash and a it'll be back anew. If I feel like topping the car at that point I will. If I don't I can leave it be. It gives you more options and choices because no matter what you do, your car will be protected.

I watched a video on YouTube where they installed PPF to the entire car and then coated it with CQuartz Finest on top of the PPF, I'm a little confused as to why they did that ?

To those who don't know much about detailing or paint protection, the guy selling him this package for 3800$ is packing every buzzword he can think of to make the guy feel like hes making the right choice. not necessarily the informed one.

As someone who does this often, let me explain why:

The PPF does not have the hydrophobic properties that a coating, wax. or sealant does. Also, the coating helps prolong the life of the film. So you get the scratch and chip protection from the film along with the ease of maintenance a coating provides. Is it absolute necessary? No.
