Great pictures!
#1 The out of focus leaf in the front is a little distracting. The one on the right could of been cropped out.
#2 Light isnt good in this picture. Face is underexposed.
#3 I like this picture, focus and composition is good.
#4 Good idea, but its underexposed. Some post processing would make it a great picture.
#5, #6, & #7 Dont really care much for these. Just lacking interest.
#8 Cool picture.

The 70- 200 2.8L is a very nice lens. I actually had the IS version of it, but returned it because its not enough reach for the stuff I do. Went with the 100-400L IS instead. Ive actually been reading that the 70- 200 4L is sharper then the 2.8! But obviously you sacrifice the extra f/ stops. So it all depends on what you shoot.
I was thinking about adding the 24-70L or 24-105L to my collection, but I dont think Im ready to spend another 1k on photography stuff right now. I might go with the 100 macro instead. But at the same time, I really want the new 40D.

Trust me, when your little one is born you will buy one! There is no doubt about it.
To get the frame around the pics, I just use the free (and it's good actually!) Canon software that came with my Rebel XT.
Depends on what you want to shoot, and how good you want the pictures to be. But you dont start with the best of the best equipment. Photography is VERY complicated.
A good beginner camera would be Canon XT or XTi. Lens selection really depends on what you're trying to shoot.
To give you an idea, Canon BODIES range from about $450- $7k. Canon lenses range from $100- $7+k. This is just for your basic body and lens. Doesnt include memory cards, cases, tripods, monopods, flashes, filters, extenders, etc., etc., etc.
So basically, it can get VERY expensive if you get into it.

Or go with just a regular Rebel. The base Digital Rebel has all the advanced settings as the XT yet not the MP count. Unless your doing over 20 x 30 straight prints, I recommend the Rebel for a first camera. I got my Digital Rebel + 55mm stock cannon lens + 2 1 gb cards, and a tripod, and a carrying case for $315.00.
With the money I had left, I got a Cannon USM [auto/manual focus] 75-300mm lens and I love it!
Like I said, it all depends on how good you want the pictures to be. It has A LOT to do with the person behind the camera, but it also has A LOT to do with the equipment being used. Same thing goes for detailing as pictures. Someone might think one picture is awesome, but show it to a pro and they might think its terrible. And the reviews for that 75-300mm lens arent too hot. But you like it, so thats all that matters. But you definitely get what you pay for when it comes to stuff like this.

Like you said, its the person behind it that matters.
I love the lens, to get used to compensating for its lack of ability, I use a tripod or monopod alot and have also made myself use the manual focus on everything I take to get used to doing it fast. Adjusting the aperature and shutter speed with that, I think I am fairly competent with this. Hey I could only afford 2 lemons, just enough for a glass of lemonade

Nice choice Ryan.......my exact setup, including the 75-300 lens. It's great at my daughters soccer games.
