Hey There,

Long time lurker (2009), finally joining in.

After always settling for what's on the lot, I just ordered my first car direct from the factory. A 2017 VW GTI SE in carbon steel gray metallic. I also just did something that seemed pretty weird to me, I emailed the dealer and told them not to wash or detail the car when it arrives and that I want to be there when the plastic is removed. After reading for the past 2 weeks, it makes sense. I definitely want to start this car off correctly.

Lots of excellent info here as always.

Thanks!

Eric

Welcome to the forum, Great choice by telling the dealer to stay away! I wouldnt even let them remove the plastic!

Look forward to seeing your new car, Drive it in good health!

That's the right thing to do.

For everyone that will read this thread into the future. If you're going to PLUNK down the money for a brand new car the read the below two articles and keep in mind. The factory paint is THIN. If the dealership puts swirls and scratches into the paint simply because they don't know how to correctly wash a car then removing the swirls and scratches will REQUIRE REMOVING SOME OF THE ALREADY THIN PAINT.

So read the below two articles and like Eric in this thread, DEMAND that the dealership does not TOUCH your car.

Clearcoats are thin by Mike Phillips

DON'T WASH CAR! by Mike Phillips

Enjoy your new car Eric!
