Hey Folks,
I'm a member over on golfmk7.com and will be taking delivery of a 2017 GTI any day now. I'll quote my initial post over there that lead to my being referred here for the expert advice:
"The thought of hand-washing my own car is not one that excites me. When previous cars got dirty, my method was:
1. Notice it was dirty.
2. Forget about it.
3. Notice it looked better the next time it rained.
4. Repeat for the life of the car.
I'm inclined to treat the GTI better but realistically, I'm not going to spend an hour or two every week detailing the car. I live in New England, have two kids, and drive 20k miles per year. I've been known to visit an automatic car wash on occasion, even.
What would you recommend to initially protect the car upon delivery, and then as simply as possible, keep it looking good without making it a horrible chore that I just forgo completely?"
Ceramic or other coatings were brought up and I've been looking into them. The names I recognize are Ceramic Pro, Opti-Coat, and Modesta. I was quoted $1,500 for Ceramic Pro over the phone which would include a loaner while they're working on my new car. Frankly, my knowledge on any of them is just shy of nil and Billy Baldone very kindly pointed me this way.
What say you? Is a coating overkill? If not, is there someone around Rhode Island who would be willing to talk me through the process?
