Thinking about buying a Legacy or Fusion - any thoughts?

I had a 2013 Fusion 2.0T AWD. It was a nice car. It held the kids well. The transmission needed sorting out though, well the programming of the transmission needed it. It searched for gears, delayed shifting etc. I traded it for a Tacoma so I went in a different direction than yourself.

I got my daughter this brand new 2016 Altima SR for $16,500 tax tag title off the lot. Back up camera, 18" wheels, nice stereo, upgraded interior, made in the USA, not Mexico like the Fusion. 38 mpg highway. It's a great car.

That's one HECK of a deal for a new SR - Nice!

I had actually considered recommending an Altima to the OP, since my other car is an Altima (SL), and I really find it to be excellent.. however, I wasn't sure if he was locked into either the Fusion or Legacy.

Since you brought it up, I will definitely echo the recommendation. If you're considering a Fusion, then you should also look at the Altima. Great value, and great fuel economy, for a comparable price. When I bought my 2014 Altima, I was actually also looking at the Fusion, as well as a couple other cars.

I've been very happy with my 2014 titanium awd Fusion. So happy in fact, that we decided to purchase it this month at the end of our lease. We looked at all the other comparable vehicles before choosing the Fusion. The Legacy's interior felt and looked cheaper, it was noisier inside, the seats weren't as comfortable, and it wasn't nearly as much fun to drive. The Fusion's exterior also looks much nicer in my opinion.

You ain't lying, that definitely is a steal for that Altima and that trim!

Here's the thing though, EVERY car has problems. That doesn't mean EVERY one of them will have the same problems. For every car owner cursing a particular brand/model there is another owner praising it. And unfortunately you always hear more negative reviews than positive because owners with problematic cars are more prone to voice their opinion out of shear hate/frustration.

Personally, checking statistics for car quality and repair trends is what I'd base my car purchase decision on. JD Power, and I'm sure there are other good sources.

I have a 2012 Fusion Sport with 76k miles on it that I absolutely love. But I'm a devout Ford guy & can't stand Japanese cars.

I would go with the Legacy out of these two choices. My girlfriend has a Fusion and I can't stand driving it. The seats in the Fusion are very uncomfortable for me.

I am in Dallas for the week, rental is a brand new Altima SL. Nice car, but prefer the more European feel of the Fusion. Controls are firmer, interior quality better and the ride is much better damped in the Fusion.

Thanks for all of the input everyone. I've decided to open up my options and try a couple small and mid size SUV's also. Tomorrow I'm going to drive a Murano and Rogue to see how I like them.

another option which has gotten a lot of great reviews (especially from this guy in the 1st video below as he is hard to impress most of the time) is the 2017 Hyundai Elantra Sport...

and also re-designed Hyundai Sonata..

I meant to ask you this some time ago, do you own a Hyundai?

me personally no, but in the family the nephew has a 13' elantra...

That's interesting considering all the Hyundai posts you've made over the years that you wouldn't actually own one?

I own two LOL.

Oh well, just an observation.

we just bought a 17' sportage. the nephew may trade in the elantra for a new optima. i like both hyundai and kia as they have come up the ranks as an underdog and it's nice to prove someone/people wrong, turn the tide, push the envelope and still keep climbing up the ladder. my next ride will be probably most likely be from either one of those two. i'm still a honda fan (own a 03' civic) but the crappy paint on them is a determining factor in purchasing another one which i will probably not...

I like the new 2017 Sportage. When I bought my Rogue in 2015 I test drove one back then, at the time it didn't win me over, the cockpit and interior felt more confining, but remember I've been a Nissan guy my whole life.

The fact that two Hyundais are in the driveway is a big step out for me :props:
