Looking for some recommendations on cleaning and maintaining an aluminum intake manifold on an older vehicle.

once every so often I use WD40 & a toothbrush. and then i wipe it down with a dry rag. i would love to use gunk & a pressure washer but I'm not going there. that would do a great job but leave me with a bigger mess. try the WD40 & really rub it in, you may like the results. good luck.

I actually had a sample bottle of Blackfire APC and it worked great on the few spots in question. It was very gentle removing the buildup. Rinsed with water and it is good to go. Installed the carbs and she is ready to go again. I have also heard great things about Optimum Power Clean so will probably try some of this in the near future for my next project.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, I was offline and out of the stage for the Memorial Day weekend.

Any quality brand APC should work like you've found out. The ingredient you want to avoid is acid as it will turn the aluminum dark gray.

OPC is very high quality and ultra safe. Dr. G makes good stuff.

Optimum Power Clean All Purpose Cleaner 17 oz.

SONAX MultiStar is also a very effective yet safe APC

I take it Blackfire APC doesn't contain acid as I didn't have any issues, but I didn't drown the engine bay with it either? There were just a few spots I needed to clean up. She is looking fine again.

Autosol been around for years, Proven Made in Germany, and works!

Sorry Clean or polish? To Polish i would use Autosol, to clean well thats up to you.

Remove it and have it bead-blasted. It'll look fabulous! Better than new even. I'm not sure if a person could then clear-coat it in an attempt to keep it clean and non-oxidized.
