Hey all. We had some cool weather (85 in the garage) for this weekend and my truck was in dire need of a detail...

The paint needed minor correction as it had swirls, scratches and two holograms that were instilled into the paint by some idiot at the dealerships outside paint shop. (The roof was repainted due to contamination under the base coat.)

Chemicals used:
Meguiars Gold Class Soap
Carpro Iron-x
Meguiars Final Touch
Meguiars M105
Meguiars M205
Chemical Guys V38
Blackfire Wet Diamond
Blackfire Midnight Sun

After decon with Iron-x (ablout 500 ml worth) and a high pressure rinse I used a Nanoskin fine clay mitt with Meguiars Final Touch, then a quick wash to make sure the paint was clean.

I started with the V38 but even with a orange pad it didn't have the cut I needed... the hood and select areas required a yellow pad and M105, then M205.

I did a 50/50 test on the hood with M105, M205, then V38 / M105, M205. Neither my wife nor myself could see much of a difference. I completed the hood with the V38 and stopped using it.

The rest of the truck got M205 with an orange pad as there was a decent amount of
light scratches and swirling.

I was hopefull for the V38 but it just can't touch M205 for the range of use. I liked how the V38 didn't dust like the M205 does.

After the whole truck was polished I used Griots Paint Prep and did a high pressure and flood rinse.

Next was the BFWD using a black pad. It goes on easy, and very easy off after applying it to the entire truck (probably 30 minutes or longer). I put the BFWD on all the paint and glass.

Pulled the truck out of the garage into the full sun. It looks great, the deep scratches are still there but I really have to look hard for them in just the right light. The swirls and holograms are gone!

Tomorrow I'll wax it with Blackfire Midnight Sun. I hope the BFWD cures overnight outside as the truck is too long (20' bumper to bumper) to fit in our garage. It had approx 5 hours of full sun to bake in the BFWD.

More photos to follow tomorrow.

Awesome work! That's a lot of square footage! How long did it take you?

Where are you at that 85 in the garage is cool? :)

Thanks! Its took me roughly 8 hours with various derailments from my wife and 2 yr old. Not too bad for an enthusiast. And yes... its a lot of squarefootage. I'll probably detail the inside next weekend.

We're about 45 minutes outside of San Diego, last weekend it was 100!

Thanks! Do you find yours scratches and chips easily?

The front end does since it has been repainted. All of the rest of the factory paint holds up well but I would not say it's a real hard paint. I am very careful with it during washes.

Paint, chrome, and wheels got Blackfire Midnight Sun. I have an order of McKee's Hydro Blue and McKee's tire coating coming in soon so if it doesn't last long... No big deal.

To be honest I like the Blackfire wax products for their ease of use; but I didn't get the WHIPLASH (pop and depth) I was expecting from reading all the raving posts and reviews. Im hopeful for the longevity of the BFWD...

I'm definitely going to do a 50/50 test with my previous go or of 15 years; Meguiars Gold Class Paste Wax.

Pretty happy. The windows were only coated with BFWD so it's interesting to see the difference with BFWD and BFMS.

You will get plenty of longevity out of the Blackfire Sealant. The whiplash look is subjective of course, but I have had stunning results with these products on my vehicles. Great job by the way - awesome truck!

Thanks! It looks great and overall I'm happy. I really hope the sealant lasts 12 months. 6 months is the minimum I can accept though. I'm way too busy to wax every few months.

I'm going to give McKee's tire coating a try. I plan on using McKee's Hydro Blue on the wheels. I'm testing the BFWD on my truck and Klassee Sealant on our Tahoe. Time will be the test.

I appreciate the comments!

Are you going to be topping the sealant with anything at all along the way?

On my truck? The BFWD is toppedwith BFMS. My wife's Tahoe didn't get anything else besides Klassie as it's white.

So far I'm happy with both sealants. My detail on the Tahoe and topping it with Klassie really made the white paint shine.

View attachment 59327 Nice truck. I have a 2014 High Country in the same color. I'm gonna get a 17 or 18 High Country soon though. I bet you love those oem hids, hey? I saw you mentioned that the Blackfire didn't give you much pop or depth. With a metallic paint job you won't be seeing much depth ever.

Thanks! Same to you!!

The headlights are bright and throw light nice and far but I don't think they are considerably better than upgraded halogens. Time will tell as halogens lose output over time. I have HIDs on a! off-road truck and those are very bright, but they are big reflectors (Hella 4000s) and I retrofitted HID bulbs.

Where I live there are no street lights so I often find myself wanting MORE light, especially after running those Hella 4ks on the same roads. I'm considering putting a 30" LED light bar behind the grill.

The '17 HDs are nice especially the new Duramax... I'm not a huge fan of the 1500s and the new front clip.
