Boss 21 backing plate failing

never had that happen, but perfect opportunity to get a certain aluminum backingplate....or just another boss plate..
 
That's just the shroud. If you have the washers installed to give it clearance that shouldn't happen. Looks like the friction built up due to a dry backing plate and tore it. There is a tube of grease that came with the polisher you can apply to the backing plate as it dries up over time. When it was new you should have noticed the back of the plate had a thin layer of grease applied.

Griot's should warranty it either way, but you could just trim it back too.

There's an aluminum backing plate available for the Boss? I thought it was only for the Rupes?
