Sonax paint cleaner IS the bomb!




I just completed a 1995 Camaro Z28 using Sonax Paint cleaner and oh my goodness, it made the paint explode!

I am simply blown away. I've used McKee's 360, HD speed and now this---sonax paint cleaner. Hands down, Sonax is the bomb!

And this is on a black car too!

No dusting, easy to use and get this---super, super fast! Knocked out the Camaro around 4 hours. Only 4 section passes with moderate polisher movement at speed dialed on 3 and then moved on.

This is a personal speed record for me! I'm super thrilled!

Yes, that's the one. Really enjoyed the polishing experience using the Sonax paint cleaner. Very thin, watery product. If you just get it all just right---It becomes almost a Zen-like experience!

Congrats on the results! Sounds fantastic. My only concern in reading the link is that it sounds like it does a good job cleaning the paint, a mild job correcting it but then deposits fillers to hide the rest and make the paint "appear" great. I'm not sure but that's the take I get from reading it.

You are correct---This is a great product if the paint is soft and you're unable to finish out w/o marring. And cheating just a little! Grin.

As for the Camaro---paint wasn't soft. I just wanted clarity and speed. Sonax knocked it out the park.

The thing is, it goes so fast...!

Anyway, customer wanted a cheap detail to sell the car. This fits the bill perfectly!

Thanks Tom! That's exactly what I was looking for. I have a surprising number of customers who come to me for a detail prior to selling thus I may just order some of this up and try it. I can/likely will top it with something a little longer lasting like Collinite 476 even just so the fillers and look stay secure for a few months longer. I currently use HDSpeed and then 476 as my lowest level one-stop product which is good for what I describe as a season of coverage.

Next week I have an inside and outside detail of a vehicle being sold, so that may just fit the bill and I'll have it by then too. Maybe I'll top it with their Polymer Net Shield that I've had but never really used.

Having a hard time up loading 50/50 shot of McKee's 360 and Sonax side by side. It shows less swirls with the Sonax.

Also in spirit of true accuracy (Got too excited and kind of forgotten to mention this step which it is important to note) The car came to me heavily compounded. Holograms everywhere, dry wax in crevasses, light and dark spotted hazes all over. I believe this helps with allowing Sonax to finish out much better than if it was straight up without a compounding step before hand.

Another reason that I forgot to mention the compounding step is that there were areas of car that was not compounded, had a very light layer of some type varnish like layer on paint. It appeared that car sat outside for long time unused. I hit it with a light buzz of yellow Keramik with yellow pads for for certain spots for couple of passes and then grabbed the other polisher with Sonax and bam--cut down the rest of varnish and finished out perfectly! Didn't take more than 15 or 20 seconds!

Question:
If you were going to use Sonax Paint
Cleaner on details other than ones for
"a quick sale"...Would you recommend
following up the process with an LSP?

Just to add, the SONAX paint cleaner is a great light cleaning cleaner/wax. Yes, cleaner/wax. It leaves behind protection so you don't have to apply any other LSP over it but you can if you want for more protection.


I have used the SONAX paint cleaner on my own truck as I use one-step cleaner/waxes to maintain the paint and usually switch it up just to test out other products. The SONAX Paint Cleaner is easy to work with and wipe off is a breeze. And it does leave a very clear, glossy finish.


It's also the only one-step cleaner/wax that I've used on the Powder Coated Wheels on my truck that actually made the powder coat paint look better.

Mike, how do you feel the "cut" or light correction abilities fair when compared to HDSpeed or MK360?

I would definitely call it a light cutting cleaner/wax or cleaner/sealant.

3D HD Speed definitely has more cutting ability.


At my last 3-day class here at Autogeek, back in May, I wanted to show the SONAX Paint Cleaner, but I chose to show 3D HD Speed for the class session on high quality production detailing instead for a number of reasons,

1: Great cutting or great defect removal for neglected paint and that's what you want when doing high quality production detailing on neglected vehicles.

2: it's a rich creamy lotion in consistency do it doesn't soak into foam pads or splatter all over the place when someone NEW to detailing lifts their pad off the paint while it's still spinning.


I do like the SONAX Paint Cleaner and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a light cleaning or light cutting cleaner/wax to maintain their vehicles.

Also, becuae it uses SONAX abrasive technology it works great on scratch-sensitive clearcoats.


I have also suggested to SONAX to change the name to invoke the idea of a cleaner/wax and NOT paint cleaner because these are two very different categories of products. Normally Paint Cleaners ONLY clean the paint they don't leave behind any protection. They are for PREPARING the paint for protection i.e. a wax or sealant.

A cleaner/wax or cleaner/sealant will do three things in one step,

  1. Clean
  2. Polish
  3. Protect


And this is what SONAX Paint Cleaner does.


Think how much confusion and how much we all talk about the highly misused word,

Glaze

On this forum. So many products use the word glaze in their name when they are NOT glazes.


As for McKee's 360 - which used to be XMT 360 - I would say it's in-between the SONAX Paint Cleaner and the 3D HD Speed
