Hello. So after doing my second ford Super Duty truck. I am wondering how long it takes or would take you to do something like this. I am washing the truck and doing the full interior. Wash each wheel separately, super degreaser on front for bug removal, door jambs, foam the truck, go over trim and badges with brush, foam again, wash, rinse, then dry, and Tire shine applied.

Then on the interior, Vacuum, pretreat carpets and scrub, pretreat seats and scrub, Hot water extract seats and carpets, clean all doors, console dash, etc, apply UV protection. Vacuum again and wipe door jambs down. also go over smooth plastics with clean towel to make sure there is no streaks.


So the thing with this truck is the floors are pretty dang dirty, grass, mud, gravel, and the carpet is black, seats are tan and cloth, and you can see the black grime in the texture of all the doors, console is trashed, the dash is really dusty and grime in the lines where the panels meet. All over like this.

I am wondering if anyone has done a full detail on a truck this size and one that might be as dirty as this one was.

after I get several answers I'll post how long it took me to do it.

Hmm that's interesting. Yours must not get very dirty. At least not like these last two super duty trucks I've done

You may be restoring a job that the owner just expected to be cleaned good. If some owner lets a truck get that bad and is going to still keep it and not prep for sale just give it a once over unless they specifically request a better cleaning that they want to pay for. I have a feeling although they are very happy with your work they may not have expected 10 gallons of gas for $5.00. Did you make it clear with the owner that a job that is deep cleaned will cost multiple times of a standard clean?

hahahaha! I pick up and run the truck on waste vegetable oil so it is pretty dirty most times.

But there's MUCH less carpet and seat area to clean in a super duty, than say, a minivan.

Thats pretty much my time on a big truck or SUV. If I have to polish, it takes 7 hours.

$350 is what I charge for that job.

There was about an hour and a half break in there. (a bit longer than I wanted. Had to deal with google adwords claiming my site is infected, which it's not)

used standard detail brushes .. used the colorlock brush on the panels. The big ol leather horse hair brush wasnt quite stiff enough to get the texture clean. Literally couldnt just spray and wipe off anything

A great tip I got on here is to video record yourself doing the detail. Watch it and then figure out where you waste time. For me, the big time waster was putting tools away. I put a tool away after I used it and it was adding a lot of time. I changed to putting the tool in a box or bin, and putting it away later.

Another great time saver for me is to brush the carpet with a rubber brush before vacuuming to loosen debris, allowing the vacuum to pick it up faster.

Also, I use a Tornador, so I don't have to scrub nearly as much as I did before getting one.

so what would you say you do most to get texture clean with it.. spray it on, scrub with a brush, wipe off, then blow out crevices? seems like what I would do .. dont know.

For gunky cup holder stuff, I may spray and then use a brush, then a towel. For most surfaces, it is just blast and wipe with a rag, or just turn off the liquid and blow it dry with the Tornador.

I like to use Chemical Guys Grime Reaper and Fabric Clean in it. Also like Meguiar's All Purpose Cleaner in it. For cigarette smoked cars, I fill it with odor neutralizer and blast headliners. Its a game changer for me.

I have done quite a few of these and always in the worst condition imaginable as i get them from dealer trade ins from contractors. They range from 4-15hrs with the gross ones being 5ish hours and the awful ones that need major scratch removal and every square inch on the interior treated like a stain taking 10+. Luckily for me the dealer i get them from is quite reasonable and knows that if it is a real turd i will get it to shine again but it will cost them a few bucks. As long as you are getting paid enough i would give it the time it needs to come out nice. But if they are paying you a flat fee i would either not take it or give them the amount of work they are paying for.

I agree with everything above as i feel that i take too long sometimes and have been meaning to do the video thing of myself to see where i can cut some time. I also, am probably going to get a tornador as that is the only tool i haven't decided to pick up yet and if it saves 30min-1hr on every major vac it will pay for itself in no time. If you don't have one yet i would invest in a steamer (since i got one myself i have noticed everything interior related has been faster and come out better).

For what it's worth, I stopped comparing my time taken to other pro's who do it faster. However, I did do a sort of motion study thing a few years ago and cut down a lot of motion inefficiencies. I like that video idea.

Basically, it takes me (and you) X amount of hours to get the job done. As long as you and the customer are happy with the results is my objective.

One final thought, though, is don't get too caught up in giving them more than they are paying for. After explaing all the options you can do and they select the package...do that.

You need a spray and wipe leather and vinyl cleaner.Malco to this date holds the record of just doing that.Spray and wipe no scrubbing.That's the difference from consumer grade products that are weak versus professional products like Malco ardex or carbrite.
