ceramic coatings vs Zaino

How are the initial impressions of this? How did the first couple carwashes go?

Haven't gotten around to it yet - maybe this weekend.

So, the first few washes went as expected. Sheeting action is tremendous.
I noticed that there was a scrape along the side of the car and it appears my wife drove alongside a bush or hedge or something.
Fortunately I was able to buff it out with a gloss pad and Essence. I'm assuming that's not enough to remove the CQUK underneath but we'll see.
I have a matte Vespa GTS that I want to try the remaining CQUK on, and I'll probably give the McKee's line a try soon on my other vehicles.

Will be interesting to see...have had coatings than a light polish would remove (menz 3500), other took something like menz 2400, a few took more. Not sure where essence falls on the abrasive chart. Wasn't Essence Plus designed to 'fix' coatings?

Essence is a fine polish with some fillers. Essence+ seems to be like a glaze for coatings. Not sure it has any abrasives. If it does, very minor.

What coatings took more than Menz 2400 to remove? How did you know (appearance, water behavior)?

Essence Plus has no abrasives in it. One thing to keep in mind is that Essence Plus will change the water behavior. It is not as good as the coating by itself. Same with the self cleaning effects. It also only hides minor defects. The deeper defects will still remain. I don't know if I would use it again or just live with the defects. Reload hides defects as well.

Hadda use FG400 to remove a high spot (and did the entire panel as well) after 1st coat of Miyabi before doing second coat.

Was only using orange LC Force pad though so perhaps 2400 with more aggressive pad woulda worked with the 2400.

In that case, high spot gone, coating gone I figrd.

Have used M101 w orange Force to remove month old Feynlab Ceramic and Scholl S20 Black with spider pad to remove month old 22ple HPC.

Year old WG Uber Ceramic came off with M205 and that was on the Vette which is garaged 100% of the time and leads the easiest life of all our cars; I don't think so much of Uber because of how easily it came off after 5000 relatively easy miles.

Removing coatings and being sure they're gone? I really don't know how to tell with absolute certainty. Usually I'll chemically decon, wash, clay and then get out the machines.

With the Uber and the Feynlab, there were still some deeper defects from my initial light correction so when I was able to improve those even the slightest bit, I figrd I was thru the coating. The 22ple I was able to visually tell by the gloss and feel (or absence of) in addition to looking for some minor defect that I figrd when it was gone, the coating was gone too.

Regardless, after the compound/polish that I figrd removed the coating and any defects, I chemically deconed again, wash, clay, wash again and then did final light polish before applying new coating. Always during the 2nd wash/clay the paint/water would definitely appear and feel as a completely untreated surface.

At the end if the day though, I think it's all just an educated guess.

On the car I removed the 22ple HPC from, I left a section of the door jamb alone and just prepped with panel wipe and coated over the 22ple HPC with Miyabi x2, ISM x1 just to see what happens when you coat over a coating with another coating (or 2). So far no ill effects but I'm getting tired of seeing the two small strips of tape I used to mark off the door jamb section every time I open the door.
