72 Nova with single stage paint found in customer's garage

I was out on a mobile wash and quick wax, nothing big. After I finished, customer said "I've got a 72 Nova in the garage you wanna see it?"

Of course I did.

62,000 miles, in really nice shape. It was his grandfather's.

He has no idea what he has. I said, "This could be a show car." I told him about the car shows, cars and coffee etc and he and the wife seemed interested. So I polished a test spot with an AIO, and their jaws dropped. Like an idiot I didn't take pictures. I told him for $500 we could get it ready for the car show. I start in 2 weeks. I will certainly update.

The opportunity to work on original, single stage paint is becoming more and more rare - enjoy it!


Seriously. The odds of getting to work on a 1972 Chevy Nova with the ORIGINAL single stage paint?


And - After Kirk takes this diamond in the rough and turns it into a glistening gemstone - there will be ONE LESS car with original single stage paint to detail.


Looking forward to your write-up for this project.

Cool, have you thought about using the Meguiar's #7 technique? In my opinion it can only improve the finished product.

Mike has tons of great articles documenting Megs #7 on single stage paint. I recently did my first car with #7 and single stage paint and the results were nothing short of amazing. I used an AIO (HD Speed) as my polish.

Yep I have read that thread and used that technique before but not on single stage. Looking forward to it.

Looking forward to the results. Good job on selling your services.

Make sure you have two bottles of #7. I did an Austin Healey Bugeye and used 2/3 to 3/4 of the bottle of #7 on that tiny car.
 
Very cool! That's a '73 though. My Dad bought a '73 SS new. I loved riding in it. 4 speed with a positraction rear.

I swear all the cameras sucked back then, LOL! Cool pic, I wish my Dad took a pic of me doing something like that when I was younger, that's a keeper!

Some of my aunts and uncles had Canon 35mm SLR's when I was a kid 80's. Those pictures look so nice. I had an el cheapo Canon 35mm and my pictures are ok. Coincidentally the only car I remember washing when I was really young was with my cousins and one of the aunts with the SLR. Dish soap and wash cloths, iirc on a early to mid 80's Olds Delta 88, I remember it was a diesel too.

You are right about most pictures back in the 70-90's. Millennials won't know what a bad picture is with all their childhood photos being shot and stored digitally. Only problem is my wife and I hardly ever print out our pictures. I literally have 10-15k family pictures saved on an external hard drive.

Love those old pictures. My favorite pictures are the ones that show ordinary things. You've posted that before? I swear I've seen it before on AGO.

Didn't mean to hijack Kirk's thread! Glad y'all were cool with it.

The pic was taken with one of these. My parents probably still have it somewhere.

I have posted that picture before. I have a picture of the whole car,but the clothesline is in the background. We had a washer and dryer,but sometimes we still hung laundry. The spray bottle in the pic might still be around too. It had tire cleaner in it,and not "green" stuff either. Probably Westley's or something,but it would choke you out in the wide open. See the poles being holding up the garage, and the leveling blocks?? My parents built a house 40 years ago,and moved that house down the hill to the edge of my grandparent's property for a rent house. My grandpa tied a chain to to the attached carport,and pulled it off the house with his tractor. I was standing a good ways back,but I think I still have dust in my eyes. Never will forget that.
 
Had to post a picture of the family station wagon when I was a kid. We had just finished applying 845 in the garage and ready to hookup 4 horse power and go for a cruise.

The exact opposite is true for me. I wish I had the opportunity to work on more clear coated paints!!

That said, I'm not complaining!
