Strip wash soap

You've gotten several good suggestions for car wash. I really don't think it matters much.

Do you dry your car with a towel? If so, I would try a spray wax while you're drying. It takes no extra time and makes the car look amazing. AND... it will make it easier to clean next time. It likely saves you time. I'm sure you can find some Meguiar's locally. I use Duragloss Aquawax. It's $10 for a bottle that should last you 6 months or more. I've gotten it here for $5 on sale. Heck, I'll mail you some to try if you want. Put it on 1/2 the hood, see how it looks, and see how it goes when you wash the car next time.

We're not asking you to take on a new hobby or get into trouble with your wife. For no additional effort and very little money you can have her car easier to clean and easier to dry. That it will look better is just a bonus.

as mentioned, megs car wash plus is a great soap if you really want to deep clean. i like it better than any citrus wash soap cg's offers and the fact you can use it in the bucket (1 ounce to 3 gallons of water but you can stretch it to 5 gallons if you really wanted to) and on the wash mitt is another...

Looks like a can of worms is opening up.

Anyway, Get Citrus Wash & Gloss use the stronger dilution when you need to and lighter dilution for maintenance. Definitely pick up some McKee's Hydro. It'll add maybe 2 minutes if that to your wash and itll protect it. If you can squeeze a clay bar job twice a year it'll extend the protection of the hydro. This seems to be the best option in your situation.

i don't trust any type of citrus wash as a maintenance soap even at a lower dilution if one is concerned on preserving their LSP. i would use other soaps (hyper wash, optimum, etc.) for that purpose, or if someone wants to buy only OTC then megs gold class for maintenance and wash plus for everything else (stripping/prep, etc). you can get both for under $20...

is there an official recommendation anywhere for this dilution of car wash plus? I looked around awhile back and never found anything official, but I may just not have looked hard enough

I just assumed that applying it directly to the wash media played a role in how effective it was at cleaning.

I give my friends fiat a quick wash once a month and she cuts my hair for free, and it's a white car that is just not cared for at all, so the film and grime that builds up on it is pretty astounding. I've been searching for a soap that would be able to easily cut through the nastiness. Maybe I'll grab a bottle of this and give it a try at around that dilution!

Edit: I searched all over the forums ages ago and found nothing, turns out the answer is right on the bottle. What a life.

As stated earlier there are great responses here. With that being said there's a ton of excellent car soaps in the store on here. What I haven't read anyone mention is a washing technique. So here's a video from Mike himself explaining how to do exactly what you wanted in your OP; because at the end of the day the technique will allow you those results with damn near anything listed in the store (or Dawn soap lol)

oh btw: do you guys see the section underneath replies that says "thanks/like/dislike"? lol

it says on the bottle...

DIRECTIONS: SHAKE WELL. For best best results, apply to a cool surface that's in the shade. Rinse vehicle first to remove loose debris. Thoroughly wet a microfiber wash mitt & apply a small ribbon of Car Wash Plus+. Working from the top down, wash one section at a time, rinsing immediately after washing it. Do not allow product to dry on surface (if it does, re-wash & rinse the affected area). Re-wet & re-apply more product to mitt as needed. For additional cleaning, such as tough bugs & scuff marks, use a polishing action with multiple passes from the wash mitt. Car Wash Plus+ may also be used as a bucket wash. Since it's super concentrated, mix at 1fl. oz. per 3 gallons of clean water. For best results & maximum cleaning, apply directly to the wash mitt. TIP: Rinse the wash mitt with a blast from the hose to flush out dirt & contaminants, then re-apply the product.

i would always keep a bottle/gallon of cg's citrus wash/&g, but after using this i'm not going to buy/use it anymore. this does everything that does and more. i used this on a car that hadn't been washed in 3-4 months and it did an excellent job removing bugs, dirt/ contamination, tar, and other nastiness really well...

I appreciate the response, lol. I've never actually seen the bottle in person, otherwise I would've read it. Living out in the middle of nowhere like I do (30 minutes minimum to get anywhere, further to go anywhere that actually has anything) means I don't usually get to see the impressive collection of consumer products meguiars actually has. The closest store that carries their products is Target, and it has like approximately 4 things from them. The super wal mart that's 45 minutes away has the entire collection, but I seldom go there.

if you want to buy it otc, both oreilly's and pepboys carry it. at one pepboys near me they had this on the clearance table and i grabbed all they had at $2.50 each. still worth it at regular price ($9.99) though and a little goes a long way and should last a while (lathers up and stretches far). i don't think this is catching on with the average joe/jill (usually don't want to spend more than $5 on car soap) and i wouldn't be surprised if they put it on clearance wherever it's stocked when the new 18' products come out which isn't too far away...
