Will SF3800 on a fine finishing pad remove a coating?

I just applied my first ceramic coating. It went on perfectly but the prep polish seperated on me again and cussed swirling. I know it was doing it a little but I didn't think it was as bad as it is. So I'm disappointed in myself especially since it happened before and I had eraser I could of just used. Learning experience but anyway.

I'm probably going to do it over a couple panels at a time. I'm wondering if the sf3800 on a fine finishing pad is enough to remove the coating. That's as strong as I ever go on the paint these days. I've had it corrected as much as it will get for a while.

Depending on the coating of course...but likely not. I've removed year old WG Uber with M205 and orange LC pad, pretty light work. Then I've had a coating that I noticed a high spot on the roof in between first and second coats ( maybe 1hr cure time ) that needed Menz 2400 on LC orange pad to remove.

Menz 3800 is so weak (at cutting) in and of itself it sometimes can't even get light swirls...more of a fine finishing polish. There were times I used Menz 3800 after 3500 looking for a bit more refinement and I honestly couldn't tell the difference.

Are you trying to maintain the integrity of the coating? If so Essence Plus.

In that case polishing pad and stronger polish, 3800 is too mild.

I was able to remove CQUK with Jescar Micro Finishing Polish and Lake Country Hybrid White Pad with my Makita PO5000C. From what I hear it's almost similar to SF3800. It was my first application of a coating and it had high spots because I was experimenting with cure times before wiping off. This was within an hour of initial application.

No I'll redo it I just have to remove the swirls underneath. Just trying to get an idea of where to start

Ok nice thanks, It's diamond paint coating v2 that I'll be removing. I might just leave it on until thanksgiving when I'll be able to do it all at once IDK yet

Does the menzerna polishes have fillers? I notice on the product page it lists all the things it doesn't contain. Fillers is not listed as 1 of those things

The longer you wait with some coatings the more chance you have of it being actually fully cured you could probably take it off easy right now if you just applied it. Waiting till thanksgiving will put you up against it at full strength. Which could be hard to not not that much feedback on that coating

Im confused, you are thinking to use one polish to remove coating THEN another polish to remove swirls? Im not sure you will need 2 different polishes. Why not just use one to do both? I mean if it will take out swirls then it will also take the coating off right?

It is a nice way to know the actual coating has been removed; if the underlying swirls are gone, the coating on top of them must be gone too.

Yeah, I'm with dcj and Budget on this. I wouldn't worry about removing the coating if you'll be correcting swirls. Just find the product(s) that levels out your paint and removes the swirls and scratches. You'll then be ready to recoat.

Yes thats right, I know I can take the micro swirls out with the 3800 as long as it can get through the coating. If it will thats all I will use. Im just not sure it will get through it
