So as most of you know I have a Torrid Red procharged gto that I love messing around with. My winter project that I wanted to get done is a really nice built 6 speed trans and new Mcleod RXT twin disk clutch setup. My current trans shifts good but like most things with miles getting up there it was going to be time for a refresh along with a new clutch setup.

About a couple months ago I was browsing the GTO classifieds and a fellow owner whom I know was looking to sell his built t56 out of his 800whp gto that I know he hardly ever used. He didn't know a ton about it except that it cost him quite a bit of money to hold 1000hp. Being a little unsure about exactly what was in it I still wanted it and struck a deal that ended up being a killer score for me in the long run!

A about a week later the transmission arrived on a nice pallet. Upon looking at it I noticed it had a tag riveted on from Rockland Standard Gear. My eyes lit up. Anyone who knows about them can attest that they were building killer transmissions long before some of the other big names now. On the tag it had a part number and a BOM number. So I called them up to get some more info. Long story short this trans is one of there top shelf " Tranzilla" units that msrp for almost 8k!!!! With the trans secured I ordered up the clutch and hydraulics to go with it and today I just dropped it all off to my guy Don, owner of Slowhawk Performance to get it all installed. One more thing checked off the list. Next year hopefully a driveshaft shop built 9 inch IRS setup and then time to really let it eat at the track!

Awesome score and perfect time of year to start the install. Spring will be here before you know it.

Don also put a RPM transmission in a family members TBSS and tuned my camaro after I did a FLT trans and 4000 stall. We're lucky to have a top notch LS specialist in the area.

Absolutely! Turns out I will be getting a custom driveshaft too. I totally overlooked the fact that this transmission uses a much bigger 32 spline output shaft compared to the stock 27 spline. No sense in just changing the yolk. Might as well do a nice driveshaft while it's here lol

I like your thinking. Sounds like your well on your way to a bullet proof drivetrain.

Do you ever bring your car to the Bass Pro cruise nights in Foxboro? I've seen a Slowhawk tuned procharged red GTO there but I thought it was owned by an older gentlemen.

Haha. Yup that's me! Not too old yet! 33yrs old.

Sweet, Justin! Sounds like you'll be hunting some Camaro's and Mustangs come Spring in SE Mass.

Did the car come with a Tremec stock? I'm glad you got a great deal on this, karma is on your side for sure, can't wait to hear how it does ===========================

Yes they came with a tremec t56. It's what they call the mn12 version with triple cone synchros from the factory. There a bit stronger than the standard t56 out of the f bodies etc.

The new trans has the same triple cone synchros but switches to a 9310 chromoly gear set, upgraded 32 spline mainshaft along with some other quality built piece's. It will handle 1000hp no problem.
