What did you do today non-detailing related?

I had to jump start the FJ today, I hadn't driven it since Saturday, and it's been cold here, it probably didn't help that I sat in it for an hour yesterday listening to music while sorted through the glove boxes. Also, the battery is 4 years old, but after driving it for half an hour it started up fine. It goes in for a service tomorrow, I won't tell them about the jump start, but we'll see if they notice any weakness in the battery.

Put bird seed in the bird feeders and fixed the house door bell!

Out of curiosity I took an online ADHD test today, the curiosity being my older brother has "self diagnosed" after reading extensively online. He believes it explains a lot of things about him, always running late, easily distracted while also being able to hyper focus on some things, saying things without thinking about how it might upset people. I maintain it's because he's actually an inconsiderate a**hole.

Anyway, I did the test, and it says I'm "very" ADHD. And yet, I'm never late, I'm not easily distracted, I can focus on tasks without hyper focusing, I don't lose things, I don't say things to people that might upset them, unless I really mean to of course. I'm really a man of my habits and routines, I don't even like binge watching my favourite tv shows, I like to take my time and spread them out.

So somebody is wrong, I'm not calling bullsh1t on ADHD, but I am calling it on most of the online rubbish and on self diagnosis.

Some of the questions I couldn't find an answer that fit me, but you can't progress without an answer, so I tried to find the closest response. Seems to me they're trying to make everybody have ADHD to some degree, because they want to sell you a management plan. My score from memory was 19.34, where an average person is 9.5

Vision achieved!

I'm still knocking these things out, I have made seven of them now, with timber cut for an eighth. This week I have focused on making them with shorter legs, 500mm instead of 750mm. While the 750mm versions are at the perfect height for customers to shop from, I like to display plants at differing heights to create visual appeal.

Because the companies impact driver and drill were being used elsewhere, I brought in my own this week. That Milwaukee M18 Surge is the BOMB! It's just so smooth and quiet, in my mind this would be less fatiguing for someone who uses one of these all day long. The hydraulic gearset means you can creep up on the fastener rather than just smashing it into oblivion, handy for soft timbers or when using it on plastic. Money well spent!

I also found an old stencil of the company name in the shed, previously used to brand tools and equipment from when we had a landscaping division. The lettering is about 90mm high and 300mm long, which fits within the central board. After centering the stencil across facing sides, I applied a thin dusting of satin black spray paint. In keeping with the rustic look, the stenciled company name in black really finishes them off. I would also love to have a stencil made of the company logo to complete the look, perhaps in a contrasting color.

Semi detailing related

Went to back the little blue car out for a thorough interior cleaning prior to taking it in to the dealer for its 20,000 mile service

Garage door wouldn’t open

It started up and struggled and stopped

I’m like WTH

It’s the first belt drive opener I’ve ever had so I’m thinking belt slipping?

Nope

Something at some point obviously got spilled near the door and dissolved the sealant that the concrete guys apply to all the garage floors they pour and it turned tacky enough to glue the door seal to the floor

I’m remembering one time I slightly overfilled the snow blower but that was months ago

I have no idea what happened except for the fact it’s been in the mid 70s and in direct sun for a few days and it just created the perfect storm of stickiness

I mixed up a concoction of Dawn and Mean Green and went after the floor with my push broom and hit the seal with the same thing and a softer wheel brush

I went over both twice and rinsed and I’m waiting for the sun to cook it off and see what happens

Weird

Re: Installed some Conti DWS06's on the RedSport

Replaced 2 table lamp switches/light sockets. Was not too bad. Watched some how- to videos on the subject.

I had to replace the battery in the FJ, I had to jump start it last week, and it seemed fine over the weekend, but it didn't sound too happy yesterday when I was moving it around while washing it. Well it didn't want to start this morning, but it was just over 4 years old.

I bought it at the same place I bought my watch batteries a month ago. I got a 720CCA Yuasa for $321 installed, same price even if I wanted to do it myself, so I let them do it. The funny thing is it went in for a service last week, the day after I had to jumpstart it, and they've listed that they checked the electrical system and battery, and it was good, I would have let them replace it if they said it was on the way out, but they didn't notice.

Read - We changed the oil and filter, then charged you for a "full service" that we didn't actually do.

Ask me how I know this.

The week of many things not working - security system cell radio having issues so alarm goes off, coffee machine K cup died, door bell chime connected to security camera soundss on its own and hums, and circuit breaker (one of the expensive ACFI types) kept tripping so replaced.

I know they changed the oil, and I also know they lubricated whatever needs lubricating in the suspension and driveline. There's any easy way to tell, FJs develop a clunk or thud when the telescoping driveshaft starts to dry out, it usually happens just as you stop, or when you take your foot off the brake to move off, it's a really solid thud to. It took me 3 years to find a service centre who knew how to do this properly, all the others thought it was an issue with the transmission, weirdly it also happens if you over lubricate it, so you have to find someone who knows exactly what they're doing. And I know they did it, because it started returning about a month ago, and now it's gone again, nice and smooth.

Sitting at the Lexus dealer waiting for the little blue car to get 20 k service

Glorified oil and filters change but with military discount only about $260

My service last week was $381, with the current exchange rate that comes to $250 USD. Weird how close that is, no discount on that, but mine was a local service place.

There is only 1 “quick lube” type place that has the 0-16 wt oil the car takes and it’s like $125 there for the oil change

And they always try to upsell you on crap you don’t need

The service this morning included cabin air filter, rotate and balance wheels, genuine Toyota/Lexus oil and filter, etc

Probably a bit more at Lexus but not sure I want some Quik lube guys rummaging around the guts of my hybrid
