What did you do today non-detailing related?

It's usually with new rims when you need a re-torque

That was the point I was trying to make

Why the disparity in telling or not telling you to come back

I think part of it is the tire store wanting you to think that having them recheck it is a “value added” service and that they are going above and beyond

If you even bother it’s 5 minutes out of their day cause they don’t even need to take it into the bay but you feel warm and fuzzy after the fact

In my almost 53 years since I got a license I’m like you, I can count the number of times I found a “loose” nut/stud on one hand, other than the debacle in Arizona I mentioned when they had to have been put on hand tight

If anything they are going to be too tight and you never could have gotten one off with the little lug wrench included in most new vehicles

My take on the tire shops doing the re-check was so they can catch it if a wheel had left not properly torqued in the first place. That way if your wheel falls off but you never came back they've got an out.

I was walking my dogs about an hour after sunset tonight, I noticed what I assumed to be Venus just above the horizon, but I wanted to be sure, so I checked with my astronomy app. It was Venus, but just above it, looking like a normal star, was Mercury, something I've only observed a couple of times. It's usually way too close to the Sun to see. When I got home I grabbed my binoculars to confirm it, which I did, stars twinkle, while planets don't, as they are only reflecting light and are much closer. But while I was looking at Mercury I noticed a dim satellite moving nearby, then another, and if I'd kept looking I would have seen more, damn Starlink satellites, the bane of astrophotographers, I wouldn't have seen them without the binoculars.

This area dodged flooding and general tropical disturbance. Hope our luck doesn’t run out.

I went to our beginning of the school year pep rally for county staff and listened to our superintendent, who has all of the personality of a 2x4, tell us all that we can be replaced within 5 seconds. After noticing how poorly his words went over with the crowd, he tried to clean things up and mentioned that he was also replaceable and therefore we should all practice self care.

I believe he was trying to capture the essence of this quote but he learned very quickly that wordage and delivery matter.

What an idiot, that's a good way to ruin morale. At the last place I worked, the boss/co-owner would wander around the building telling everyone they were replaceable, and he could march someone out of the building in as little as 5 minutes. He thought it was a great encouragement to get people to work hard. It just meant a lot of mistakes got hidden and covered up before he found out, until they got big enough they couldn't be hidden. But those threats only work if you're afraid of losing your job. That was part of the reason I left. And they didn't replace me, they couldn't find someone with the same experience willing to do the job for what they paid, I only did it because of the cool products we sold.

Well, Chilly, there goes the neighborhood!

Seriously, where did they come from? There was some news here last year I guess it was, when we all found out there are still slaughterhouses in Newark (NJ) because a steer got loose and was running around, made it big on the local news: Loose bull on tracks at Newark-Penn station causes delays

Honestly they could have come from anywhere around here

There’s still a lot of farming/ranching going on in this area

Animal control was trying to catch them and couldn’t but they pushed them further away

The development I’m in was too hilly for farmland but ok for a housing development

We all have acre to acre and a half lots and there is enough variety in the terrain so it doesn’t look like suburbia

On the other side of the dirt road on the back of the house is a huge bison ranch

It’s all farm and ranch on the other side of the dirt road opposite the driveway
