So I ordered a gallon of this today and wanted to ask those who've been using it a couple questions.

1. What ratio for maintenance washes, 4:1 or more?

2. What ratio for brake dust encrusted wheels?

3. Dwell time for both?

I use 10 and 4 just like the bottle recommends. Dwell time varies depending on temperatures but I wouldnt let it dry for sure.

So 10:1 for maintenance washes and 4:1 for HD use?

make sure to use gloves and eye protection (even some dusk/particle masks too), especially if you use a spoke brush for the barrels where it could potentially fling out. you don't want to get that stuff in your eyes, on your skin, or breathe it in...

Yes that sounds good. It doesn’t need to be on long, since you are in the garage it should be good. It’s gonna be powerful scent wise though lol. Make sure to rinse very thoroughly

Stuff works well like any acid wheel cleaner does.

I guess I should've read more closely about it being an acidic wheel cleaner but I guess at 10:1 for maintenance cleanings I should be good. I say this because on my own car I stay on top of it year round and they never get too dirty, just wanted to give this product a shot since people talk about it so much, don't wanna stain either set of my wheels here!

I only use 4:1 if the wheel is not really dirty, I simply use my degreaser on the rim as well (I normally use it on the tire and wheel well). Maybe I should diluting it to 10:1 and see how it does. It's just that I hate that stuff, it kill all my sprayers in no time. The only way I have managed to make them last is to remove the sprayer from the bottle after ever use and have it spray water to rinse it out. Really annoying and time wasting. I have tried several types of sprayers including chemical resistant ones and they all die within the first 3 use of the product. So make sure you rise out the sprayer or you will find this product is pretty costly to use if you have to spend 2$ or 3$ on a new sprayer with every use.

On the bright side, when used at 4:1 is cuts through baked in brake dust like there is no tomorrow. If your can't remove it all in the first go, spray a second time and it should remove the rest. As other have said, be very careful of fumes and sling with this thing. Hydrochloric acid is some of the nastiest stuff we detailers have to work with, a serious health hazard if you are not careful. So for me that means gloves. I don't use a mask. What I do is I hold my breath while spraying then I walk away about 5-10 feet before I start breathing again.
 
I sent AG an email about trying to swap out this wheel cleaner, sounds to harsh for my needs.

I don't hardly ever grab it unless I get a really messed up wheel that Sonax or others will not touch and even then, WB does okay. There are stronger ones on the market, but I don't want that near me.

I'm hoping to switch out the gallon of Megs wheel Brightener, the Megs bottle and sprayer for 2 bottles of CG's sticky citrus, haven't heard back yet but I'm sure they are slammed today

I have used it for a long time trouble free @ 10-1 / 4-1 always careful but you do not need hazmat materials for it. Same chemical sprayer for 2+ years.

No word from AG yet so if I get stuck with it I guess I'll have to make due and see how it goes :dunno:
 
i would get just enough to mix one bottle up (in the trades thread) and use it whenever it's needed, which should only be once in a great moon if you keep your wheels clean. one gallon for personal use is way too much, and personally i don't like to keep the stuff around unless it's really needed...
 
If you do wind up getting it, one helpful tip is to not spray it directly on a dry wheel. This stuff can stain easily, even if left to dwell for 30 seconds. I give the wheels a shot of water from the hose, then spray it on (liberally for neglected wheels). Never had any issues with staining doing it this way. It's one of the best cleaners out there. Just wear gloves and don't breath it in. I actually do what Calendyr does...hold my breath and walk away lol....and yes, after using, make sure you flush it out of your sprayer trigger nozzle because it will ruin it within a few days if you don't.
 
I only use it @4:1 because I do not like to bother with agitating with a brush. I wouldn’t bother using it @10:1 because at that dilution you might as well just use an inferior wheel cleaner... Contrary to what’s been said, it’s scent is 1 of the least offensive scents of any product, however that doesn’t mean you should dive in and inhale it because you should know better. Megs Super Degreaser smells 10x more offensive than Wheel Brightener.

I think they put something in it because unlike most other sprays it doesn’t mist everywhere and instead tends to stay/cling where you spray it. It’s fumes won’t get in your face. It doesn’t clean tires or wheel wells so don’t try that.

Remember, the main benefit is that it’s able to work as a spray on hose off for routine cleaning. If you enjoy getting down and scrubbing every nook and cranny and wasting your time and energy than Wheel Brightener isn’t for you.

Unless you somehow spill the whole bottle over yourself, there’s really nothing to be afraid of. Wear a mask if you like, but gloves and eyewear are overkill since you’re never down there scrubbing. Just spray & rinse after 45 seconds.

Remember, 4:1.
 
I don’t use Megs WB very often but when I do I spray some APC afterwards to neutralize the acid. I know that acid can damage paint over a period of time.

Not sure if I would use WB on a continual basis.

Do you guys follow up with APC afterwards?

Never. And I disagree that the acid base of Wheel Brightener can somehow damage the clearcoat in the longrun.
For 1, it’s being rinsed clean with water.
2, if it was so harmful to the clearcoat, then why doesn’t it eat through the plastic bottle it comes in even after years and years of it sitting on the shelf? [clearcoat is a form of plastic]

I know this for a fact, because at Meguiars in Irvine Ca, they’ve got a gallon of Wheel Brightener concentrate that has to be nearly 10yrs. old sitting on the shelf.
