Calling Jeep Owners

Used to be big into the jeep world. Only advice I can give you is that its worth the extra money to get a wrangler with the 3.6L and avoid the 3.8L. Check for rust, with the years you listed, you might as well go 2015+. Check for leaks in the hard top, and remember, if you want a hard top, get one with it. same with a soft top. Both tops are very costly to get after the initial purchase.

Thanks all for the warning about the 3.8.Which years did the produce them,so I can avoid them...
Thanks

I really wanted to like my jeeps. The 07 Rubicon was a disappointment. Got it used. First year of the JK. Ill fitting soft top. Minivan engine. Interior leaked water day one. Got a 12 JK ARTIC EDTION. Brand new. Even had them pull it in the service bay to check for water leaks. None found at the time. Great new interior. Biggest improvement was the 3.6. Started leaking water in the interior every rain or wash. Multiply attempts to fix. Failed. Dealer buy back. Really sad. I loved that jeep. But almost lost my sanity on the water leaks. And no, it's not a jeep thing. No 30k-40k vehicle should leak water daily into the interior. Period. I just gave up on them and never looked back. I swore to never own another one again.

The 07-10 with the 3.8s are dogs with a crummy automatic trans. And they rust like crazy on the underside so a used one pay close attention to where it came from

11 got the pentastar. Earlier ones yes had left cylinder head problems

12 got a nicer interior.

I believe this is the other way around. Nicer interior in 2011, engine in 2012.

As I recall I specifically looked for a 12 when shopping for my wife’s JK because I hated the engine in her 2008...and I’m cheap so would’ve bought the oldest model that came with the new engine so was annoyed that I couldn’t get an ‘11 haha.

If it were me I'd hold out for a JL- I LOVE the new styling, interior, etc.
But as some said on here... you can probably get a good deal on a JK, although Jeeps REALLY hold their values.
Only thing to really watch for with TJs is frame rot.

FYI- anyone looking for tons of Jeep stuff check out quadratec.com :xyxthumbs:

I agree 100%, but I just saw a few videos on the JL and the new soft tops are still leaking!😭😭😭

I havent had any problems with the hard top on my JK, but since the JL has 2 new tops I'd wait until they work out the kinks. From the sound of it, it has been a problem that has been happening for years and the problem continues unfortunately.

WOW. So much Jeep love here. Nice.

Glad to see several are going well with no issues.

My own '96 Cherokee has the 4.0L and when I bought it, it already had over 230K miles. It's up to 242+ and still running great (never mind the small crack in the exhaust manifold). AND, it recently passed the strict California Emissions test (SMOG) with flying colors!

Jeeps are awesome... I met my husband in a Jeep club back when I had my '04 TJ.

Lol on the Quadratech, Monica.

The wife has a QT book in just about every room in our house with pages bent over to things she wants. (Hint Hint) Lol

Quite a few packages from them the last few weeks.... :)

I had a 93 XJ with a 2.5L 4cyl that I bought in 1999 with 75,000 miles on it. It had 275,000 on it when I traded it in 2010. I drove it from St. Louis to Moab Ut at 19, and wheeled the crap out of it on a 4" lift. In those 200,000 miles, I changed probably 12 u-joints, 5 alternators, 3 starters, rusted out floorboards (twice) and a clutch.

I'd love to own another, but only as a toy that came out of the garage on nice days and to go wheel. As others have said, they're prone to leaks (improving there), and reliability can become an issue if you start modding them a ton and either don't know what you're doing, or pay someone that doesn't. With all the sensors on the newer ones, and how much they cost I would cry if I was out on a trail with one and broke. Big wheels and tires have a ton of rotational mass, and they don't stop well. I think there are much better options out there if you're wanting a family vehicle. Looking the part simply isn't worth it to me. What you get for the money is absolutely absurd, too.

That said, I see a TJ unlimited in my future. I like the longer wheel base for stability when offroading, love the way the old TJs look, and parts are very plentiful. As stated, those old 4.0s are practically bulletproof. If I'm really feeling saucy, it may be trying to find a scrambler project. Whatever it is, I'll have the tub rhino lined and won't care about it getting wet on the inside.

We just purchased a 2017 JEEP Wrangler umlimited and the first thing I noticed is when you buy a Wrangler you automatically are a part of a special JEEP community. It is a great community to be a part of and you will see there is a special wave when you pass one another. Sorry for the side note.

To answer your question, Jeep Wranglers are great vehicles and relatively low maintenance if you dont go crazy with add ons. I've read a lot of Jeep owners complain about the 2011 year model, but nothing major since then. We also have a 1995 YJ and has been problem free.

Really? That sounds awful.... I hear the jeeps are expensive but then again what isn't? I also hear they hold their value.
