Hello guys,

I did 3 step correction (compound/polish) plus ceramic coated my vehicle last week. Since I wasn't allowed to wash my car for a week, I waited until today and after I finished risneless washing my car I spotted these on my hood. They are driving me crazy since I can't figure out what they are... They look like small white dots but definitely not a paint chip or water spots.

Can someone please help me? I am going crazy because of the fact that I can not get rid of them and my car is black so its even worse!

thank you!

Looks to me like compound residue. If it is and it's under the coating, you will only be able to remove them by removing the coating. But wait for other comments, I might be wrong.

I would assume that they were not there when you were coating, as I would've definitely noticed that. Is it possible that the coating was exposed to moisture during the curing stage and what your seeing if moisture trapped under and/or within the coating itself?

Looks like stone rash- which would be underneath the coating and in the paint- no real (safe) way to eliminate the issue if that is actually what it is. Would need more detailed pictures and to see the car in person to know for sure.

Looks like stone rash

How old is your car? Or how old is the paintjob? I can tell you this, my hood can look nearly perfect, but upon close inspection you’ll find exactly what you see on yours. And it’s certainly stone rash.

I agree on the stone rash or "pitting". Compounds and polishes get down in those tiny pits and they will often turn white or get more noticeable after a day or two. Age of the car? The panels appear to be different colors too...repaint?

I'm kind of surprised the paint prep wipe down didn't get to those or weren't visible during prep work.

it's 2014, I purchased my car from the dealership and it seems like the front bumper has been repainted but I'm not sure about the hood. doesn't look like it but I can't tell for sure.

also what is the difference between rock/paint chip vs stone rash?

and is stone rash something that I can feel with my fingers?

Rock paint chip and stone rash is basically the same thing. The only difference is when you’ve got stone rash you’ve got a lot of micro nicks spread across a semi large area. Rock paint chip refers to a single chip.

What kind of car is it?

BMW 5 series

And you bought it brand new? Did you severely neglect it before you got into detailing? There’s gotta be more to the story?

It was sold as certified pre owned, dealership informed me that they had repainted the front bumper because it had minor scuff and scratches. I wasnt into detailing at the time so I didn't really check for the paint condition carefully since everything looked good at the time of purchase

He might not of had the right lighting or looked hard enough, that's happened to me.

Mines a 2014 too and its covered in road rash. The only difference between a rock chip and road rash is the amount of chips. Road rash is like thousands of little chips.

Why? Do you think road rash comes from neglected paint? I thought it came from low quality paint.

I’m not to knowledgeable on paint quality and whatnot but I would say that this is just from normal driving... ever been behind a semi and it drifts out of the lane? Sound like your car getting sandblasted, at least it does here in ny.

Neglected as in driving through harsh conditions such as industrial highways occupied by semi trucks or maybe driving on dirt roads or something.
