Interior Protectant

Call me crazy but I'd actually prefer something scented like a new car, or even chemical if it smells like a new car. I have new car (SQ5) and just want it to stay looking and smelling new. Lots of votes for Mcgee 37 but I don't need anything that smells like my cologne! But I'll still consider it. Thanks for the feedback so far!

You always have the option of using Meguiar's New Car Scent Protectant. It to has a light cleaning action. I never found it to have that ideal new car scent but it is not offensive or cologne scented.

How glossy is it? I hate shine.

I do not know as I have not used this new version. I have not used the old version in a long time since I have it away. I can not recall the gloss level. Like most protectants it can be toned down with a light buff from a microfiber towel.

I can also vouch for Megauiars Quik Interior detailer. It will not deep clean but it will remove surface dust and leave a layer or protection. For superior protection I use a good APC like Blackfire BF-450 and finish it with 303 protectant.

Here’s the kind of results you’ll get from it + it smells good. Who doesn’t love New Car Scent?

I’m guessing you probably hate it by now? There’s always good ole plain water & towel for the true matte people.

I use the Griot's Interior Detailer for my A6 and my wife's Q5. I like it because to my eyes it just leaves the interior looking fresh, not "treated". It also leaves some UV protection (I'm guessing most products in this category will). Like the other interior detailers mentioned, it has cleaning power good enough for all but big stains.

I've used the Meguiars Quick Interior Detailer, I would say the Griot's has similar performance. I like the smell of the Griot's better, it has a mild citrus scent when you use it but isn't a smell that lingers. After using a bottle of both, I restocked on the Griot's. It's also on sale right now.

Haven't had a chance to try the McKee's Fast Interior Detailer - I'm sure it's a solid product like most (all?) of the McKee's line. Checking prices/info, looks like the Meg's Quick Interior detailer is about the same per ounce as the Griot's, but doesn't mention UV protection. The Meguiars Ultimate Interior Detailer is a bit more, but has UV blockers. The McKee's Fast Interior Detailer also has UV protection and comes out as most expensive of the 4.

Meguiars Ultimate Interior Detailer actually cleans quite well but leaves a fairly glossy surface.

I use gtechinq matte dash, no scent, leaves interior looking like it came from the factory and last 6 months. It comes in a small bottle but I had more then enough to do two cars with two coats each.

I've recently been using Meguiars APC to do the cleaning and then I picked up some Wolfgang Cockpit Sealant. I used it on mine and my moms car. Both black interiors and so far it seems to be doing pretty well. Seems to resist dust pretty well and isn't too glossy or slick. My mom's car hasn't been wiped down and the other day when I was in it, it still looks good. The other day I just took a damp microfiber on my car and wiped down any kind of dust that may have been there.

How long is it supposed to last? Does a little go a long way? How did you apply it? Any pics?

As far as durability goes I'm not sure how long it's supposed to last. A little does go a long way. The first time I applied it, it was on my personal car and I definitely had some high spots because I used to much. Knock it down and it was no issue. When I detailed my moms interior I had that in the back of my head and I used a lot less and it looked great. I applied both times with a MF applicator pad. So far I like it. It's a bit pricey I think it was $29.99 for 8oz, but when using properly it should last a long time. No I don't have any pictures unfortunately.

So I bought 4 products to compare! Applied them side by side on my dash, here is how I see it (shine is obvious, color is if the product made my dash blacker or not, evenness is if it shows "stroke marks" or not). BTW this a 2018 SQ5 to give you an idea how the interior surfaces look.

Meg's New Car Scent Protectant:
Shine: satin
Color: blacker
Evenness: uneven
Scent: mix of rubber and fruit or something. Doesn't really smell like new car and doesn't smell good either. Scent lingers

Griots Garage Interior Detailer:
Shine: totally matte
Color: no change
Evenness: even
Scent: a hint of some fruity chemical, goes away after awhile

GTechniq C6 Matte Dash:
Shine: slightly more than matte
Color: slightest blackening
Evenness: slightly uneven
Scent: nothing at all really

Wolfgang Vinyl & Rubber Protectant:
Shine: satin
Color: blacker
Evenness: even
Scent: Pina Coloda, lingers quite awhile so far

The Meg's and Wolfgang look basically identical for shine and coloring, but W goes on more evenly and the smell is not as odd and strong as Meg's. If you like a bit of gloss and like Pina Coloda Wolf's seems like a nice product. Griots didn't change the appearance at all! The scent is not strong (well I haven't done the whole car yet) and seems to lose strength reasonably fast. The GTechniq changed the color and shine just enough that you know you put something on, and I like that it doesn't smell. A bit uneven but since it doesn't change the appearance much you might not notice. Holy expensive!

I'll probably go with the GTechniq for now unless it does leave too uneven of a finish after doing the whole interior. If so I'll probably just go with the Griots after that. BTW all the finishes felt somewhat similar except the Griots, it definitely felt different, almost like how ski wax grabs your fingers if you rub it (not in a sticky way at all).

Here you go:

Looks more noticeable in person. I did the upper dash too just to make sure my technique didn't throw off the evenness judgement. Sun was down so I can't get a picture of that.

Excellent.

After a day the scents have evolved: Meg's is still strongest and now kind of smells like a new car, Wolfgang has nearly went away, Griots is weaker but still present.

Nice comparison. GTechniq will outlast Meguiar's for sure. Did you apply a second coat after 24 hours per the directions? That seems to work best and the thing I noticed is the lack of dust build up over time with C6. I have not used any of the others.
