I am planning to apply a coating for the first time. Before I do so, I want to make sure I have all the details.

My car has XPEL ultimate on the front 1/4 of the car. I plan to apply the coating over the film as I have read it's ok to do this and that XPEL actually has a clear-coat as the final layer.

What I am wondering about is what happens in a year or 2 when the coating starts to break down and I want to apply something new. Is it possible to polish over the film to remove the coating or is there some other product that can be used to remove it from the film?

I was also wondering if it's ok to use Carpro Trix to decontaminate coatings? I see others who use Iron-X to get the hydrophobic properties back. I purchased Trix already and was not sure if that was ok to use over a coating (since it probably has a stronger chemical to remove tar)?

For coating over the Xpel that's perfectly fine. As for polishing yes you can very lightly polish Xpel if needed. Something a bit more oily works great. Like Menzerna sf3800 on a black finishing pad. I have also used m205 too. Then just follow with your precoat wipe down.

I think you can just add new layer to the existing one. You can slightly polish it to make sure surface is clean and smooth but you don't have to take old coat out completely.

Can you use IPA as your wipedown prior to coating?
