I recently picked up a 2010 Corvette ZR1 this weekend. Overall the vehicle is in fantastic condition. The paint has light swirl marks and is in dire need of some TLC. Traditionally, I have used Poorboys products in the past to service my needs. However, I would like to really do this by the book now that I have a DA and do not have to rush.
Being that this is a black car, would it be advisable to purchase the stand alone products and go in order below? I listed the Poorboys products that I believe is needed. However, I am open to any suggestions.

  1. Wash
  2. Clay - Poly-Elastic Auto Detailing Clay and Clay Lubricant Combo
  3. Swirl Remover - SSR-2 Super Swirl Remover
  4. Polish w/ Sealant- Polish with Sealant - All-In-One Polish & Synthetic Polymer Sealant
  5. Natty’s Paste Wax (Blue) - Natty's Paste Wax - Blue

Thanks in advance!

Wouldn't be my first choice of products, but if they work good for you and the vehicle, whatever. :props:

You have two polishes listed, the first being a "medium polish" and the second one is more of an "AIO" or a cleaner wax. I'd start off trying the AIO first, to see what results you get. The SSR-2 will have more CUT than the AIO. The AIO has a light polish already built-into the bottle. Otherwise, the order looks okay.

Color of car?

Myself, I like 2.5 better than 2.0, then step down, (which the pws will do pad dependant)

Where are you?

Congrats on the new car. They are nice.

There are a ton of products and combo's to use. Whatever works for you to correct it to the level you're looking to achieve. Depending on how bad it is you may have to compound then polish or perhaps if it's light, just use a polish.

Sealant wise, I would coat it. Personally, I'm all but done with waxes and regular sealants as coatings looks so nice, last longer and are pretty easy to use.

I love pure black and I love correcting black. Nothing looks so good once done correctly. You can get a great candy glow from it. when coated. The depth of black will be endless too. And the reflectivity will be like a mirror you can see yourself in.

Thanks for the feedback. I did a bunch of research last night and decided to go the Wolfgang route.

I look forward to the results!

The headlights are in excellent condition. No haze or scratches.

I wouldn’t mind taking that ZR1 for a ride!

Congratulations on the awesome car. Do you have any pictures?

had a 2002 camaro ss, and used poorboys ssr1 with white pad over the years. just threw away the natty blue i had, was 10+ years old and dried out. i had bought my ss new so i never had problems like you may have, but i like the SSR1 & SSR2 a lot, I have SSR2.5 but almost never needed to use it on anything.

over the years i found the type of detailing clay (maybe it's GM paint and again this is 2002) that the softer "extra fine" clay works much better, and any hard type of clay (gray) often left scratches, the clay i prefer i think was the green extra fine pinnacle clay, and use a bucket of car wash soap or dawn that is warm water to help make the clay soft. I never liked using clay with just a bottle of spray lube... seems harder/risky and always prefered a sudsy panel. My recommendation would be a white pad with SSR2 for starters and if that doesn't cut fast enough on a spot you are doing then try ssr2.5 or ssr2 on a a heavier (orange cutting) pad followed by a white pad with either ssr2 or ssr1. But for the black in the end I think you would want to end up using a white (polishing) pad regardless, using ssr2 or equivalent as the heaviest. not sure you would "really need" ssr1 you could probably get away with ssr2 on a white pad with very good results.

here's some more pics,
i find you know you did a good job when you have to turn off all the auto features on a smartphone to take a pic,
the first pic above of the hood/front was with HDR turned on, these pics are more realistic the result of basically a white pad and portercable 7424 with SSR2, SSR1, and one of the meguiars deep crystal polishes (step2 ?) over the years, and using soft clay bar prior to polishing
