Going backwards to go forwards!!!

Thank you for sharing your trials and tribulations with us. I thoroughly enjoy both your work and your written word. It's wonderful that your birthday was truly a special one. Cheers

Great post and love the honesty about your mindset and trial's and tribulations. This post is exactly why I don't really want to get into having employees. I see it all too often that people expand and sometimes things go well but a lot of the time they end up downsizing and keeping it simple. For me I would rather be booked out 2-3 months and have people who are willing to wait for quality work then be trying to get tons of work out the door.

Myself like you share the passion and enjoy doing work(most days lol) There's a reason your successful. Your awesome at your craft, and you care about your clients. There's no way you won't be successful.

I like you have doubts all the time if I'm doing it right or can I, should I expand. Then I step back and realize that things are going awesome here and there's a reason I am booked out 2-3 months solid.

I just had a conversation with a close friend who wants to get going on his own business adventure and I told him it's mentally draining sometimes but the satisfaction and reward out does any mental demons you may have. If your skill set is there and your reputation then you'll be fine. My dad always has said your only as good as your reputation. You need to treat people right, do the job right. Even if it means taking it on the chin once and while. You do that and you'll be successful.

Keep killing it brother! Very happy to see you doing what you love and doing well.

Thank you Justin. :xyxthumbs:

Appreciate your input here brother. :props: You know - it was a line from you in a previous post that was along the lines of 'bigger isn't always better' that stuck in my head since I read it & it was exactly that that kept popping into my head throughout. After the last guy left & we were thinking about things, it was your comment that reaffirmed what we were thinking.

It was never about chasing money, it has always been about detailing & detailing well. After I had my heart attack I guess we fell into that mentality that I needed to lighten up on the work load, & more hands would make that happen. Turns out that there's more stress created worrying about whether my standards were being kept & also trying to keep things moving as to be able to actually be able to afford to pay wages too.

Now, well now I just concentrate on the job infront of me - do it right, do it well. Sure some days it all compiles & gets out of hand but thats not the norm. Like you, my diary is solid for months & basically if people cannot wait for my service then they probably don't 'get it' anyhow.

Justin - I truly appreciate your comments my friend, thank you. :props:

great work. Love to see those Holdens!

Thank you Belo. :xyxthumbs:

Glad to hear my advice however minor it was had an impact on you I hope for the good. Take care brother and if you ever want to chat feel free to hit me up on Facebook etc.

Aaryn,

You have reached 40 and my birthday next year will crown me at 70. I live vicariously through you, Mike Phillips, and others here. I share your passion for your work but age and physical problems forced me to stop detailing a few years back. Please continue what you are doing, along with your lovely wife, and post here. I enjoy it immensely. Thanks from ALL of us here.

For sure Justin, for sure. :props:

Oh yeah, definitely for the good mate. We are happy where we are at, it was there all along but we just needed a reminder & your advice played a big part in that, thank you.

Wow! Rick, man I am honoured to play my part, what an inspiring, touching thing to read. I think I simply have to try harder to put more time in to being active here on the forum - if the shop/home balance keeps going along this track then We’ll be good my friend. :props:

. . . Quick update -

This invitation arrived in the post a day or so ago. Some motivated Detailers have been throwing around the idea of gathering some of New Zealand’s elite detailers & having a get together.

This is a pretty exciting step forward for the progress of detailing in New Zealand & the numbers of confirmed attendees is strong to date. Very cool indeed. :props:

I’ll leave you with a couple of random pictures from the shop.
