Wow, I think you just inherited somebody else's mess. I think somebody damaged the clear and you made it worse inadvertently.

Is that the rear plastic deck lid or the actual trunk. Your photos look like it’s the deck lid.

Maybe a stupid thought. But could it be possible that the car is coated with a protection that has a large darkening effect. And know on that part you are working on it has gone through the coating to the clearcoat. The thing to determind that would be to wet sanding or compounding a little bit outside of the part you have working on. Has the owner had the car since new? And if so may get you some information about what it has been done to it.
And nothing is on you if you have been upfront with the customer and not promised anything but to give it a shot. You wrote that you have been trying alot of different compounds. And hope you did not do it on the same spot. Is there any sign of this cracking and shifting in shades on any other part of the car?
It's the part between the tail lights that normally has the gt or pony logo

You know that’s plastic right???
The deck lid is easily replaceable and there are a lot of better aftermarket choices. Honestly I wouldn’t waste anymore time on it because it’s plastic. It’s just a plastic cover...
As a matter of fact, a reputable aftermarket shop for mustangs carries replacements. What I wish Ford did, was not put a piece of plastic there but rather just left it sheet metal and painted, like the 05-09 mustangs.

Yes I've seen this before. Whatever top coating they're putting on this plastic rear decklid for these Mustangs is extremely fragile. Using just a black finishing pad with GG Perfecting Cream caused a large amount of these fractures to occur on a test spot. It was a great lesson for me and my neighbor working with his new GG6 polisher that sometimes the lightest pad/polish combo is not light enough! If these are coming out with sanding I'll have to give this a shot, looks like you're just going through this fragile top coat similar to the spent UV coating of faded headlights.
