What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

How do those clay pads work for the DA?...I have never used one

How do those clay pads work for the DA?...I have never used one

Kinda works like a sander/grinder on the paint. IMO it feels like complete overkill. Sort of like using a sledgehammer to put a tac on a wall… Ok maybe not that bad but it doesn’t feel right to me. But then again I’ve only tried it once, but the time I tried it it instilled heavy marring but even worse fine swirls that wound up being a PITA to completely remove off a custom cars expensive paintjob.

FYI it wasn’t my idea to use the claypad. I was told to.

To me there would be no physical feedback of "Touch" from your hand/fingers....I could see how it could head South in a big hurry...

Exactly.

Btw in order to make sense of the whole “I was told to use it”
I really mean that… You see what happened was we were filming the episode of Competition Ready that day. And when we started prepping the car Mike tossed me the polisher and told me to get started claying it.

I looked at Mike and kinda whispered to him “are you sure you want me to use this”? He replied something along the lines of “if we brought it, were gonna use it” lol.

So I reluctantly started claying the hood with the thing on a GG6 polisher and some claylube.

Hopefully this link works, because I’ll let you in on a little secret or better yet full disclosure.. The defects that he’s showing her @ :39 aren’t exactly how we found the car, that inspection actually took place after I had got done claying it. And those swirls had just been instilled by yours truly.

And as I was standing there listening to Mike describe to her how bad it looked a part of me wanted to smile while the other half was cringing and couldn’t help but feel bad because I caused those scratches on paint that was nearly perfect when it showed up! Lol.

And just to make things worse those scratches I put in were nearly impossible to remove. Finally after getting about as aggressive as we could with what we had on hand, we were finally able to get that paint perfect… But it took some work. Lol.

That’s the correct link.^

Nice link.
Being new to this site, I'm not familiar with your background.
Are you with Mike's crew or are you with motortrend or an independent?

Still a nice opportunity....

I used to be in visual communications back in the day...did all sorts of filming/taping of that sort...

Ric blowing the whistle and I love it! It's too bad it took this long but I never cared for the show, mainly because I couldn't stand A.J. and I just knew things were "staged"

Since there was nothing buy, we decided to keep the wife's Telluride. I topped it 303 Graphene for the winter and gyeon coated the leather.

Wrapped up a 15-hour detail.
I am spent!

-CarPro CQuartz UK3.0 base layer
-CarPro SiC on top and all trim
-Dr Beasley’s NSP 150 polish on the wheels and topped with Ethos Resist graphene spray.

I do not say the following lightly:

CarPro SiC is the slickest coating I have ever applied. Mind blowing slickness. Glad I got the 100ml bottle. I put it over UK3.0 as recommended by a few other detailers saying it has the best look. But that took up a large portion of time, due to 3.0 being grabby and slower to work with.

Too lazy to make my own thread.
How the YouTube detailers manage to create an enjoyable video whilst detailing a car, takes a lot of dedication.
Just stopping to take a few photos seemed to put me up against the clock.

What coatings have you used to compare the slickness?

Car looks great. Nice job.
