What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

Yesterday, did a decon wash on my buddys 2017 silverado. I paint corrected and ceramic coated this thing just over two years ago with a coating from a local outfit. It was one of the last times i used that coating.

I was around when he washed not long ago, and i felt the paint, it felt rough and contaminated. So i told him lets do a good decon on it and go from there.

Didnt have access to pw so no foam job. Sprayed down with iron remover, bucket washed with carpro descale, then finished with fenlab pure rinsless.

To my suprise, the paint felt smooth again, looked and felt like it was just polished. No signs of scratches/micro marring. He even mentioned how well it looked. So decided to not clay or anything.

Can coat evo was up next. Then waited an hour or two, then wiped down with Amplify to protect it from the incoming rain so he could drive it home.

This does sit outside all the time BUT it does get stored away for the winters so i imagine cancoat evo should last him quite a while

That's A L O T of real estate, I would need a jetpack to get around that truck

It's great that it's coated and I'd be using Bilt-Hamber alot to keep it clean and many spray on, hose off products to make it as easy as possible

I’ve contemplated accidentally getting sick to get out of this interior I have booked for Thursday. Great customer but the SUV formerly belonged to a couple with 4 kids. I”m seriously thinking about dropping interiors from the menu after this one.

I hate doing the interiors of other people's vehicles, one of the reasons I don't do it for a job I guess. I have a rule for when I've done friends or relatives cars, you must remove all the rubbish before you give it to me, I'll clean the interior, but I won't pick up your rubbish. Empty lolly wrappers and soft drink containers, unfinished or dropped food, and worst of all, used tissues, will make me leave the interior alone.

This stuff is my new mat and pedal dressing. Love it!

Glad you liked it, perfect for the job in question.

Just a heads up, Guf tends to petrify the rubber pickup tube on those Kwazar sprayers. You may find that in time you will need to squeeze the trigger 20 to 30 times to get the thing to spray. Seems to be particular to Guf.

Is it dry to touch?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Completely dry to touch and non slippery.

I always used heavily diluted Perl for floor mats, just enough product to give them some richness without being a safety hazard.

With Guf, you just spray liberally and then give the mat a generous rub with a towel or brush.

Bug spray all over front of sisters truck for 5 min, pressure wash off. Hand wash the hood and front fenders and grille area. Rinse and use soapy water to clay the hood nose. Dried and inspected where here low pro bug/rock shield was. Double sided tape came off and it scuffed the hood at 80mph.

Not to bad though. Orange 5” LC foam and D151 and a few passes and you can’t tell. She was happy.

I had a little left. I think I will try Jescar Powerlock next. I only do it twice per year As I only have one car (MB) that is not PPF’d (23 BMW 340i has full PPF) I only need to do one car. I only use a detail spray and Optimum Spray Wax on top of the PPF.

Agreed! "Back in the day . . . " when I got my 'vette (so 20+ years ago) that was the first time I did anything more than carwash with a sponge (single bucket, 'natch) and follow up with turtle wax the same way I'd learned from my dad a million years before that. Prep wash with blue (!!) Dawn, clay (never done before), Z1 to prep surface for mating with Z2 then maintain shine with Z6. Was real popular on Corvetteforum and introduced non-Vette friends to it as well - we referred to it as the "cult of Zaino". Of course back then I thought a shammy was the shiznit and it was all done by hand, of course, as a Porter-Cable was only "for the pro's". Detailing products and (even more importantly, IMO) techniques have evolved a lot since then but it was a big step up for me back then. No regerts. :xyxthumbs:

Edited to add - forgot about my silicone blade for drying, too! Microfiber, ### is that?

Makes me wanna get a bottle of Z-CS as I can't find the equivalent on Autogeek, who besides Optimum had a seal and shine product, Pinnacle or Wolfgang?

Dated 072911. But thinking back, that was probably an expiration date as I had already bought my first vehicle (at least first non-parent provided), stored it and left the country by that date. I spent so many hours reading up on Zaino in 2007...

I still remember applying it with the 100% Egyptian cotton towels and applicator in the zip locked bag after every tunnel wash at Mike's (midwest chain - no clue if still in business now). Knowing I did that then makes me now realize I should have used the full polish kit a lot more often.

I think the smell and mess of that bottle pictured has finally convinced me it's time to throw it out.

I actually just bought a bottle of Z-CS, trip down memory lane but I will say that when I used Z-CS and the Pinnacle version on my old Honda CR-Z, it literally looked like it was wrapped in cellophane

Btw THIS is what I owned when joining AG back in 2012.

I was using it on a black 05 G35X. Great car in those years... even leased the Q40 before Infiniti moved on. Talk about a brand that needs an update by now.

Z-CS looks great! I had some colleague ask me how I got my car to be so shiny one morning after applying it... but I can't imagine the amount of swirling I had on that thing thinking to my routine now. Wonder what the next 15yrs will be and what you'll be buying then for a trip down memory lane?! Guessing you'll still have a pallet of BH Touchless if it's ever at risk of disappearing.
