What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

Two weeks after every coating I bring my customers back in for a wash tutorial. I show them how to wash the same way I do and exactly what products to use and send them on their way with a few goodies to get them started. He just happens to be one of the very few that actually understands that the coating has to be maintained and is willing to protect his investment.

Washed our two cars today. The Dodge with Griots Surface Wash. The Jaguar with Griots Surface Wash, followed by PolyGloss. The Dodge is getting another coat of FK1000p tomorrow morning so I skipped the PolyGloss. I found a bottle of Griots wheel cleaner in the back of a cabinet, so I used it on both. I forgot how pleasant it is to use. The wheels are coated with FK1000p and Armour Detail Ceramic spray, respectively. The wheel cleaner didn’t affect either coatings.

Forgot the shine and gloss that Tac Shinee Wax can add. I'm on a mission to use it up as much as I can and hoping it will help reduce dust... vehicle is probably sitting for awhile so

Forgot how quickly we lose daylight around here so got dark on me.

I gave the Qashqai a rinseless wash today using Ech2o, it got caught out in the rain and hail on Friday, so it wasn't real dirty. I do prefer it over ONR, although I wouldn't use either on a really dirty vehicle. I didn't touch the wheels, they still look ok.

The most annoying thing was this blemish on the hood, and I knew exactly who did it. We went out to dinner at a local pub last night, as we were walking back to the cars my brother just puts his phone on the hood while searching his pockets for something, in a serious tone I said "please don't", and he gets annoyed at me, he's lucky I didn't throw it on to the train lines behind the pub. Fortunately it wasn't a scratch, he's lucky.

BH Touchless on a ver neglected Subaru. Had a hard time cutting through. Followed up with Descale which took care of it.

Descale cleans better than any soap I’ve used.

Funny how different folks in different parts of the country and different grime get totally different results. My results with Descale have been meh.

Not much out there in acidic soap.

Hopefully Labo Purifica does better for me in the NW.

While my buddy Marsin worked on my EN today I did a N914 WW on his EN. I just can't sit there and do nothing and I don't like watching people working on my car, never did, never will. I want it the way it was before and then....ALL DONE️

I ended up using my IK sprayer filled as well as about a 1/3 more, the sun was coming up fast it was almost 90 degrees. I told him he's gotta hit the quarter wash for those rims, my God were they dirty...and INTRICATE...and satin black...and that's enough about that

Have you tried it in a bucket wash? If not, may i suggest to try it that way. I found it to be way more effective, as it states on the bottle

I should have clarified the Descale was a contact wash. The BH worked, but it wasn't strong enough to remove heavily imbedded dirt. There was no getting around doing a contact wash.

With that said, I still think Descale cleans exceptionally well.

I did a top to bottom wash minus the wheels and arches because I planned on detailing the engine bay and washing and protecting all the door and hatch jambs and I knew it was about all I could manage

I had 2 weird things happen with chemicals

First , I found a full 15 year old bottle of P21s shampoo when I was moving a few months back and decided to use it since I was out of everything else

I added 3 capfuls to 3 gallons of water and hit it with the pressure washer

Nothing, no suds, flat as a pancake

I doubled the amount and nothing

I poured the rest in my foam cannon and added water for about a 50/50 mix and again nothing

I soaked a mitt in my bucket and very gently took a swipe across the roof and it felt like straight water, no glide, no lubricity

I jumped in the 4Runner and drove to town and grabbed a gallon of Hyper Wash and started over

The P21s had zero smell and I think I remember it smelled like apples

I guess car care chemicals can have a shelf life

After I finished the wash and dry off with OCW I pulled the car into the garage and wiped and blew the engine bay dry

I grabbed an almost empty bottle of old 303 Aerospace and my boars hair brush and hit the plastic and immediately noticed it was going on very sticky and wipe off was a chore

This was the last bottle of several I bought years ago at an RV store that was closing

I guess it also has a shelf life

Just weird I had 2 issues in one wash

I tried in the bucket and from a foam cannon with agitation from a wash mitt.

Engine bay was dirty and didn't want to use water so I used 2 mf towels soaked in Ech20 1oz/gal and did a very quick wipe down. Ech20 the rescue. I tried it on the interior of the Subaru as well and it came out great.

Slapped a coat of FK1000p on the Dodge. I had to clay the horizontal surfaces first. The verticals were fine. Also used Jescar Tire and Trim on the tires.

I gave the FJ a rinseless wash today, using the leftover bucket of Ech2o from washing the Qashqai yesterday. It's probably good practice, we're supposed to have a hot dry summer, we could end up with water restrictions by the end of it. This time I did the wheels as well, just using what was left in the bucket at the end, they came up quite good. It confirmed my thoughts after yesterday's wash too, that I'm much happier, and I feel more confident that I'm not marring the paint, using Ech2o, not that I ever saw any issues with ONR, but it's the feel while washing and drying, I just like it more.

My next detailing project arrived today. It’s in like new condition but customer wants it clayed. We’ll see if it needs polishing after the claybar then get it coated. Looking forward to this 1. Should be fun.

If I had to choose just one detailing product to use I think Ech20 may be the one. It's so versatile.
