What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

So my g/f is studying for this big test coming up July 1st, so after dinner she did that but asked me to get her gas. Now usually I get her car washed at my touch-free wash but I washed my work van this morning, so after I got her gas I came home and decided to hand wash BOTH cars, pre-wash AND 2BM...let's go

I washed hers first, it was worse than mine so the pre-wash was 4 oz of Bilt-Hamber Touchless in my Griot's Garage foam gun and really dwell well! While that was going on I mixed up 1 oz of Bilt-Hamber AutoWash in the wash bucket and suds it up. I rinsed her Cruze off and damn the Griot's Garage Ceramic Spray Wax is REALLY holding up! That said I wanted to kill my bottle of CarPro Hydro2 and I used it on her wheels, hood, windshield, roof and back window...extra protection

The 2BM with Bilt-Hamber AutoWash was a breeze, I'm sure the soap was laughing at what it had left to do, stuff is so concentrated that 1 oz is truely all needed in about 3.5 gallons of water!

I rinsed off the Cruze and dried it with a Chemical Guys large drying towel and moved it into the street so I wouldn't get her freshly washed/dried car wet cleaning mine...NEXT UP

For my car I used a Griot's Garage carwash pod in the foam gun. While that dissolved I added an ounce of Bilt-Hamber AutoWash into the rinsed out wash bucket and got thing ready, fresh rinse water too, ofocarse

I foamed the EN, let it dwell and rinsed it off...no problem! Next were the wheels, coated in rust dust from the storm that blew through yesterday morning! Now while my car was bone dry after the storm at the end of work day, the rotors apparently were EXTRA rusty because when I picked up my daughter my wheels had a light gold/orange finish, so I knew today they'd be getting a good cleaning and for that I chose Griot's Garage Wheel cleaner to knock it out. I used my new tools, Griot's Garage wash mittens and lug nut brush and Speed Master brush to clean em' up...while wet I happened to have enough to apply a little boost coat of CarPro Hydro2

The 2BM of Bilt-Hamber AutoWash said "are you kidding me here" but really cleaned the EN well, a little extra, crisp clean look when I went to dry it off, used a 2nd Chemical Guys large drying towel (family bought for me, not a bad towel if I'm being honest)

I finished up with all jams and engine bay, time to hit the shower and go to bed

I’m running out of time and it’s already sunny and warm so I took my new IK Foam Pro 12 loaded with BH AF to a new tunnel wash that’s on the way to the market

I had pumped the sprayer up with my air compressor at home and I was only worried about the grill and the windshield because they were pretty buggy

I had enough oomph in the sprayer to easily do the front end back to the mirrors, the windshield, the rockers, and the tail end

I didn’t run out of air, I just didn’t need the whole car foamed so I shut it down and bled off the remaining air

I gave it about a 4-5 minute dwell and then someone took one of the two touch less bays so I figured I better grab the last one

The car is clean and ready to splat many more bugs on our trip

Logistics question for doing the foam/presoak and tunnel wash (touchless!) dance . . . the ingress to the driver's side after the presoak and paying for the wash prior to entering? How do you open the door and get in without "stuff" dripping inside and similarly how to pay at the entry kiosk to the tunnel? I know for those with monthly plans etc. there's typically a tollway-pass style sticker but for mopes like me that just pay as needed, at least at my local facility, I'd have to roll down the soaped up window to lean out and dork around with the payment/auth thingie before entering. I've yet to do this but I know many here do so hoping to learn better practices to being able to pre-soak/soap without making a mess inside.

Thanks!

Honestly I was thinking the exact same thing today, "Do I want BH AF down past the window seals and in my inner door?"

This isn't something I normally do in the summer, it is usually a winter thing, although I guess that makes no difference, except I usually only do the liftgate, lower rear bumper, rockers, grille, etc, and don't have AF up on the windows

I console myself by saying that the chemicals the car wash uses aren't exactly hummingbird milk and they get pushed down into windows with considerable force so maybe I am worried about nothing

I always have a folded paper towel in each back pocket and I will grab one of those to wipe my hand with after opening the door IF I managed to get gunk that high

I used Apple Pay on my watch today so I just had to stretch my arm out to the card reader so that part is pretty painless, and I guess I just make sure I don't drag my arm or sleeve across the window sill

Even the carwash where I have a monthly pass requires me to scan a QR code off my phone or punch in a code so one way or the other the window is going to get rolled down

I get what you are saying though, I don't want a harsh pre-soak brought into the car and smeared on the interior

Finally got this car in my garage after seeing it almost daily for a year at work. There were the typical tunnel wash scratches and judging by the filth on my finger from wiping it on the wheel barrel, it’s never had a good old fashioned hand wash. She’s clean now and it’s nice to deal with someone that doesn’t haggle on price and has no problem paying for quality work. This BMW has officially been “Syncro”nized if you know what I mean.

On another note, the haggling couple from the other day who were going to stop by and show me how immaculately their CRV is maintained never showed up. Color me shocked.

I really like that color

I thought I'd try out Carpro Perl on the Qashqai, it wasn't particularly faded, but we all know the pressure when you get a new product. It applies very easily, and I really like the scent. And even though I had it at the plastics ratio, I topped up the tyres as well. The true test will be on the FJ which sits outside in the weather.

Interior day. Cleaned seats with Leather Honey…. Great stuff for leather. Cleaned rest of interior with P&S Xpress.

Finally tried Dash Pro. Didn’t look as good as my usual go to PBL Leather&Vinyl Coating. If it keeps dash less dusty though I’ll be stoked.

Tried Leather Master Vital for the leather. Was impressed noticeably softer and made seats pop! Says to let sit for hour then coat. I didn’t get their protector so I topped with the PBL L&VC. Seats looked amazing.

I have not seen a Leather Masters bottle in years but then all my vehicles have coated or leather like surfaces.

Yeah my leather is semi aniline so it likes a conditioner ever now and then.

Did a RW with DIY Detail this morning while it was overcast and a little cooler. Sun started to peak out toward the end but still cooler than it would have been this evening. Still had Griot's RW in my sprayer so it was a mix of the two. Needed to scrub a little bit with some of the bug guts, tar, etc.

Got the EN cleaned up for a C&C tomorrow morning

It rained a couple days ago and needed a good cleaning, although the self-cleaning properties are still doing their thing...let's do this

Started by foaming the EN w/Griot's Garage Foaming Surface Wash (not pictured) and let dwell. While dwelling I started on the tires & wheels. For the tires I used Griot's Garage 3 in 1 Tire/Wheel/Mat Cleaner, the rims received Brake Buster and my new brushes, as well as old ones, knocked it out. I rinsed everything down and moved onto the 2BM

For the 2BM I decided to use Gyeon Restart, not the best smelling product but it does what it name says...RESTART! I moved along the car and it's such a great cleaner, glides around and leaves it clean to "Restart" a topper...which I did

I decided to clean the glass while wet and reached for CarPro Clarify Phobic and using it on wet glass was a breeze but LESS IS MORE when using it, even while wet

For the drying aid I used P&S Inspiration Defender. I have so many sprays in my collection and I've gotta say this product was a pleasure to use, plus...Deyon, it smells AMAZING

I did a quick vac and sprayed some Griot's Garage Fine Leather scent inside and called it a night

They were calling for storms all weekend. Fit the grass in Saturday afternoon. Did the Maintenace was on the truck Sunday around 5:30PM. Partly cloudy. The sun was there but not too bad. Worked around it. Tonneau cover got another treatment of Wolfstiens tonneau cover protectant.

So after I got home from work a little early I decided to do a RW on the EN, as well as a good, F R E S H LSP on it since I might be driving it to Detroit this coming Wed thru Sunday...let's go

So with all this talk about RW's lately I decided to reach for an "oldie but a goodie" and it was WGU (Wolf Gang Uber for you noobs). I took a wiff to make sure it was still good because I bet it's been 5 yrs since I last used it, smelled liked I remembered, so I moved ahead with the wash

I added 2 oz to 3.5 gallons of water, grabbed my trusty IK sprayer and 5 500 GSM Eagle edgeless microfiber towels and got after it

The memories came rushing back, THIS was my long time/all time favorite and I think it was for many people out there! I did a section at a time and it's so good, great lubricity and GLOSS, plus it dried VERY easy w/o any streaks to be found. Once done with the EN, I used the left over on the tires, wheels and wheelwells...onto the LSP

Having posted in Deyon's Aussie muscle car thread the other day and reading his and Big Dave's comments the "Land down Under" was on my mind, so I had to chose between Nv's 3...Boost v2, Lustre & Jet, I chose the latter due to future weather this week, plus my upcoming trip

I grabbed a thick, mf applicator and spare 500 GSM Eagle edgeless MF towel and applied the product. I sprayed about 3 sprays per panel, maybe more for the larger hood & roof sections, worked it in and wiped it off...EASY! The Nv Jet wipes on clear and you could see the "rainbowing" effect, a true coating IMO

Once done, actually while moving around the EN, I could see the CLARITY, it's undeniable and so rewarding...the EN is looking AWESOME

Yeah I know, we only hit 57f today, but the feels like temp was 50 with rain on and off all day. We're only as far south of the equator as San Diego is north, but they say we're getting one of those polar blasts at the moment.

Yeah 57 probably does feel cold to your body when you so used to the heat.
